Many times. Take clients there regularly when I’m able to score tickets (Kill Tony sells out months in advance), but you can typically find tickets for other shows if you have fast internet service and can get in the queue as soon as the tickets drop.

If driving, park at the lot at 608 Red River. They recently installed cameras. As for food recs, don’t overthink it. Walk over to Casino El Camino for a badass burger and some great 80s vibes, then make the 3 min walk over to the Mothership.

It’s a great club. Rogan has single handily turned Austin into a comedy Mecca

know we are gonna watch the bats come out at dusk. I have seen it before and its pretty cool.

Those bats are on our shite list this week. They didn't swarm till well after dark like at 930 Saturday night when we went.

The damn bats are as unpredictable as hell itself. When it’s really hot they come out after dark a lot

Pretty much a tourist trap vibe now. There are a couple of ok bars still there but I don't enjoy going there anymore

I've never heard of any of this but it sounds pretty awesome. I love live comedy but I rarely think to go out to see it. I'll check this out. How far in advance can you buy tickets?

NM, I see now. It varies based on the show.

For a novice that doesn't know anything about the shows, do you recommend Mothership tickets? Are these varying acts but overall a safe bet for a great show?

We saw kill tony and rogan at the vulcan club on 6th like a year ago. It was fun. Rogan is weird to watch doing comedy though...felt like I was watching a podcast

He makes intense eye contact while performing. I saw him a handful of times at the Store and couldn’t figure out if he wanted to fight or frick me.

Oh yeah - you ever know who will stop in for a set. Rogan claims the green room is a who’s who of incredible comedians on any given night. Recently went for a standard Rogan + Friends show and ended up seeking Ron White, Brian Simpson, Tony Hinchcliff, and Tom Segura.

Even the open mic nights will randomly have a big comic pop in for a set

I feel like since Kill Tony moved to the Mothership the bucket pull quality has suffered because you have a) parasocial JRE podcast bros who think Tony’s their best friend and b) 6th street drunk tourists who sign up because why the hell not, they’re right there

It seems like before the move to the mothership there were more up and comers who just wanted a shot and had prepared material. I don’t know how you recapture that or if they even care to recapture that.

I also liked how bucket pulls ran up from the back at Vulcan. Coming from behind the curtain doesn’t feel as authentic somehow.

it was fine

they stress being there early, but the show started after 8, and didnt seem to be too bothered by people coming and going during the act.

they line you up around the corner next to the iron cactus, check your id to make sure it matches the ticket and then give you a wrist band for whichever theatre you are in.

they then heard you in line to the front of the building where they do a security check. phones are taken from you, turned off. they give it back of course but it is off in a magnetically sealed bag that you cant open until they do it for you after the show. so wear a watch if you want to track time.

they heard you into the bar area to start, it was closed on sunday night so idk if that is normal or not. thats the mitzy's place. as far as after the show grabbing drinks i doubt it because that seems to be the staging area.

everyone for my show was prompt in the bar area, they then heard you to the theatre and seat you with your group. it is lounge style seating. tables and chairs, drink service. a bigger theatre than i thought (fat boy). the drink menu is not great, $7 beers in cans but the service was really good. they dont stress you getting up and taking a piss which is nice. you arent locked in for two hours. i had heard they are strict but outside the phone in the bag thing it didnt really feel like it.

the show itself had 3 openers, ranging from 5,10,15 minutes. all pretty good.

leaving is kind of slow, but they do a last call so your tab is done by the time the show ends. getting the phone out of the bag doesnt take too long, they are ready for the crowd.

the hardest part of the experience is leaving since that part of 6th on weekends is usually blocked off to cars which makes getting an uber more challenging.

i was drunk so i didnt drive or try to park. but i probably would have parked somewhere off 5th in a garage.

Did you get to see William Montgomery? Remember who the 3 openers were?

true that. even on non-political issues, he's usually dead on wrong.

i think Rainey Street is being gentrified, which means being made less shitty.

Wow. That does suck. That setup was a very cool idea. Now just high priced condos. Those will turn over every 5 years when folks have a kid and no longer want to live above a bar anymore.

I can’t remember exactly

One thing I do know, Chappelle is playing moody fri/sat

What do you think the chances are he does a pop up at Rogan and friend’s Thursday night?

Don't hit the Chappelle show. Even seated close, you have to watch the screen to see what he's physically doing as a part of the joke. This happened a couple of times, and I was only 20 ish rows off the floor. I couldn't see what he was doing without the screen.

Everything in Austin ends up tourist fricked. When Ron White goes, or Maniscalco, or Joey Diaz, or someone offensive, I'm in.
