The way I heard it is 13 days ago was our first reported case. You wouldn’t do the first of two tests until 14 days after the first positive result. Yes we had this virus more than 13 days ago but all we can go on is when the first confirmed case was.

then states he has no idea how many of the 800 cases are mild or severe, or how many people have recovered

Oh. I didn’t see the press conference. If he said he has no idea about the things you mentioned, yeah that’s not a good look.

Per the OP, not knowing the exact amount of people positive that are currently in hospitals isn’t that outrageous in my mind.

He mentions it’s on the same path as Italy. Says the hospitals will be overwhelmed if this continues. Is pressed for how many hospitalized covid patients there are and “can’t remember off the top of his head”.

He saw a worst case scenario model the other day and he’s basing everything off of that, numbers and timing of testing be damned.

Facts are irrelevant when you're trying to spread fear and panic

Are they hospitalizing every infected person in Louisiana? Or just people in significant trouble. IIRC, Sean Payton tested positive and stayed home. He mentioned how many days left he had at home...I never caught if he was in Louisiana. I assume Texas.

I guess he isn’t doing a good job. I don’t live in La so not following it very closely.

But serious question for any location - are they taking a tally of people’s names when infected and where they will “ride it out”?

Take Sean Payton for example. He was infected and stayed at home. He won’t be infected forever. Would the ability to recount how many infected people that are in hospitals require the practice of recording when they are infected and the life cycle of the virus? Would you cross their name out in x days bc they no longer infected?

If this continues for weeks or months, the number of infected would increase overall but decrease in some respects. This isn’t like Herpes when you have it forever.

I think I got this virus on March 7. The fever went away 48 hours later but I still have a cough. I didn’t get tested. So did I have it or am I recovering now 15 days later ? What do I do ?

Absent shortness of breath it’s kinda a crap shoot. If pretty much everyone living with you didn’t get it as well with those three symptoms then it probably wasn’t corona

I live alone. Came back to work 48 hours after fever abated. I still have a cough. Assuming it was Corona, are you recovered once the fever is gone ? Doesn’t a fever indicate a virus in the body ? Am I contagious ? No one in my 120 sq foot office has gotten sick.

Hospitals are always "near capacity".

Not in the NO Metro Area. The was a graphic in a nola.com article this morning or yesterday (can't remember which) that showed beds and ICU beds, along with average capacity. Metairie average was about 55-60% of capacity. The highest average was NO at about 80%. With the rate people are being admitted to the hospitals, all are expected to exceed their capacities in 8 or 10 days, if the flow of patients continues to increase.

There are about 600 positives in NO and Jefferson. They're not all in a hospital, but enough are that they're straining resources. Additionally, hospitals are losing staff as doctors, nurses, LPNs, etc become infected. They can't be easily replaced.

Buckle up. This isn't going away any time soon. It's too bad it kills old people instead of morons.
