This is all just grandstanding by the House and Senate. There is no WAY either chamber has the guts to do this.

I double dog dare them

So?

JBE can rescind the extension today and then enact a new order effective may 1 in line with the guidelines. That's what he should do.

They would be forced to open schools if the emergency order was cancelled.

The state was granted a waiver on school attendance requirements.

Republicans are horrific with media messaging

They need to get out in front now and put the ball in JBEs court publically by saying “we don’t want to rescind the emergency decleration. We want JBE to let Louisiana enter phase 1. It is up to him to not have the emergency order rescinded”

I agree that’s what he should do but I’m honestly all for completely opening. Forget the phases. There’s no real purpose to them. They’re only meant to make people feel better because there’s some arbitrary plan in place. It makes people feel like someone is in control and knows what they’re doing. Newsflash: they don’t.

Right.

If the order is rescinded and the governor is prevented from issuing a new order, ALL CLOSURES are lifted.

I don't think anyone with a sane mind is suggesting that actually happen. The proper thing is for JBE to amend his order to open some things while keeping others closed. That eliminates all issues.

Well that isn't going to happen.

It will if the Republicans sign the petition. There won’t be restrictions at all anymore.

No. It's time to play hardball with him. He has lied and lied and lied. For six weeks, everyone has gone along to get along and he has used it to his advantage.

He needs someone to figuratively slap him in the face and let him know his unchecked power will not continue to go unchecked.

If that's the Republicans want to do that, by all means, go ahead. It's time this charade ends.

Yes, that's the proper thing. But JBE is not going to do the proper thing on his own.

JBE needs the federal bail out since he destroyed our economy well before COVID.

What if the order was going to end like it was supposed to on May 1st? Schools still weren't going back to school....

so just rewind back to like it was supposed to happen before Monday when he extended it.

That's only if the legislature exercises their prerogative to put a proscriptive period in the language. They don't have to. Ideally, what happens is that everyone agrees on the language of a replacement executive order, the governor rescinds his existing order (he can do this at any time) and issues the new one that won't get whacked and avoid legislative oversight completely.

This won't happen, though. Political frick frick games are being played here.

Or he could just produce a more logical and reasonable order which allows certain people to go back to work while still maintaining social distance, etc.

At the point that we open up restaurants/bars further measures are laughably meaningless (really, they're all meaningless now). Everyone will have been exposed. Besides, wasn't the original intent to "flatten the curve"? Or was that a half-dozen goalpost moves ago?

What's Jayce's stance on this? I want to know how he's going to try to hold this against Tiger Droppings.

I'd imagine this is the case with almost all, if not all, of the states that extended the order.
