Germantown maybe. I know plenty of well to do people from Madison. st Andrews in Madison l/ridge land (same thing)is a great school. From my experiences in suburban Memphis I'd compare those places to Antioch outside Nashville.
There are nice neighborhoods in Memphis proper with access to good schools.

I've lived in both and the answer is Memphis.

Well, Memphis is probably the worst, most depressing major city in America but at least it has a big airport and an NBA team, so it trumps the terrestrial hellscape known as Jackson easily.

I live in Memphis (Midtown). It's not New York City and it's not Idaho or Montana but it's not awful. I don't know why it's so heavily maligned on this board...it's not a mecca of nightlife or anything but there's enough to do without ever having to deal with heavy traffic, crowds, parking issues, or annoying transplants. The bad areas are much more easily avoidable than in New Orleans.

Madison (Jackson) for my family specifically because of closer proximity to the Gulf. I'll eventually retire on the panhandle of Florida. The ability to be there three hours quicker (6 total hours to and from) means a lot to me. The rest is a wash as I can do almost everything in Madison that I can in Memphis and surrounding areas and I could give a crap about NBA basketball.
