Batting second was Cayden “Cade” Slater, a middle infielder with a rocket arm and a lifetime .415 average.

Cayden Slater hadn't hit .415 one year in his life. We picked up with that Warhawk squad two years ago. His fat a$$ mama (ain't gonna say what I really want to say about her on here) runs there game changer and she rules everything he puts a bat on a hit. Meanwhile ever hit Carl Todd had when he played for them was ruled error or FC. First couple times your like, yea, ok, she miss one. But after 4-6 you know whats going on. He can't play short either that's why they hide him at second but that ball gonna find him and expos him everytime. Ain't saying all those boys can't play cause some them legit. But Utrip bump them to Majors last week and you about to find out they ain't all that. That's really why we left and went back to the Mudcats anyway.

So instead of sitting inside all day playing Fortnite, he is outside with 11 other boys working together as a team. Seems like a good investment of time to me.
my son seems to get all of his hours in with Fortnite regardless of his travel ball. He can be cranky tho.

This will be my first spring as a travel ball parent. I'm expecting the worst, so it maybe won't end up being that bad. This is the list a friend gave me:
1) Igloo cooler of Gatorade for all the siblings (just act like its for the team)
2) Tailgate Chairs
3) tailgate tent
4) Extra icechest in back of truck full of ice
5) Whiskey in apple juice containers.

If there's anything else I need to know, shoot!

you are 100% right

my son plays travel ball but for an organization(traction canes) that doesn't do fall and encourages arm rest and other sports. my son plays football and then basketball in between baseball season and it has made him a much better athlete and baseball player.

we start tourneys this weekend and im ready to get back to it. im glad he has a coach who is worried about development and not rings. his assistant coach is an ex lsu baseball player so he gets plenty of good coaching.

travel ball in general is a money grab for most. plenty of kids playing who have no business doing so but hey it is what it is. id rather that kid play baseball than sit inside.

The only people that benefit from travel ball are college coaches. Everyone else loses…..players, parents, family, coaches. They all lose time, money, friendships……travel ball is a complete scam.

One thing I've learned over the years of coaching is aim to give a kid a chance at high school ball.

That's really it.

I drill fundamentals and how to approach the plate and situational awareness.

I've been blessed to help a lot of kids so far but I've learned you either have it a lot of times or you don't. The ones that have it naturally will rise to the top and start on that team. The rest are support players at best and that's ok.

Look at my two boys. One is 5'10" now in 7th grade and is a lefty. I work with him and he has the tools. Never puts it together. OK with me I enjoy playing with him.

My 10 year old is built like a tank and is not near long and lean and athletic. He's been the best hitter on his team every year. I haven't had ton work with him shooting a basketball or hitting a baseball. He hits everything anywhere near him. Like a machine.

His hand eye coordination is elite. Always has been.

Have fun.
Teach.
Set them up for success if it's there.
Play all the kids. Most won't make it out of rec.

My son is playing rec ball this year instead and he's excited. I'm sure he'll be one of the better pitchers in the league since he's already started and closed out games on the competitive kid pitch side. I told my wife to be ready for the travel ball coaches making their rounds looking for pitchers for those 2-3 tournaments where they'll be short a couple players due to vacations. A left hander that can pitch, play first, catch fly balls and hit always has a guest spot on the travel ball squad. Even if it's sitting on the bench while the coach's kid runs out there to suck arse and kick the ball around the infield. But to be honest, playing in a single tournament somewhere like Oxford or Jackson, TN one weekend doesn't sound so bad. Almost like a minivacation. But the grind of 8 tournaments in 9 weekends going Southaven, Southaven, Oxford, Jackson, Oxford, OFF, Southaven, Southaven, Oxford , etc. frick that. It's just too much of a grind for a 10 year old.

I lived through the travel baseball years and those have been over for several years. Now it’s travel volleyball. Much more enjoyable and relaxed. Still have a lot of crazy parents but I find it funny to watch their antics.

That was the greatest thing I've ever read.

On a serious note, how many MLB draftees in the past few years have played travel ball?

Except for maybe a few off the radar Latin American kids, every single one of them.

The real question is how many can attribute travel ball as a material part of the reason they are drafted? I’m saying somewhere around 5%

Google the shite,985boy. It’s the Lakeview Vikings 7U team. They started playing games last week. They will practice and play until the Lakeview rec starts at the end of April. They’ll play in that until the end of June then jump right back into their travel ball schedule.

This is from the email sent out over the weekend for rec. 1-2 games a week from 4/28-6/27. The travel teams send out invitations during that playoff week. They’re assembled for all of the 4th of July tournaments and are still playing when school starts the first week of August. We just went through it last year. It’s fricking bananas.
