Until we get a governor who has the nuts to change it. They are all so worried about whose toes they are stepping on and getting re-elected as opposed to being a state leader and coming up with ways to improve the state.
"Public servants" entire reason for being is to accrue power, which means corruption, graft, and re-election. Every move a "public servant" makes is calculated to get him/her the most votes to be elected again. It's not unique to the governor's office of Louisiana, the Louisiana Legislature, or even the State of Louisiana.
Downvote away, if you must, but there are so few who are NOT like this. Many start out with some altruistic goals, but they get corrupted at some point or other, they get threatened, ostracized, insulted, criticized. Very few can withstand the influence of the Establishment and the "go-along-to-get-along/scratch-my-back tactics so as not to upset the gravy train.

We'd be better off if people with this mindset were taken out back and shot

Racist.
And ^^^ that's why nothing ever changes.

Louisiana does not have any real rich pals.....if we did, we would not be in near the mess that we are in

It is hard to believe over time that New Orleans didnt end up with one decent suburb.

What's necessary to be able to scrap the constitution and start over on it?
A bill calling for a new constitutional convention has to pass both houses with 2/3 majority. They meet and write a new constitution. Then it is put up in front of the people on the next normal election day. If a simple majority of the people (and in this state, REAL simple) accept it, the new constitution is ratified and the old one scrapped.
So, it'll never happen again.

Exactly. Yes, Covington and Mandeville are great compared to other Louisiana suburbs. But, travel to other states and see what quality suburbs look like and you will realize we are crap here.

Geography is a limiting factor for the entire greater New Orleans area, I mean there's a big-arse lake, a large winding river, many smaller bodies of water and waterways that limit property size. Add the fact that a great deal of the area is basically swamps, marshes, with little bedrock to support it....

Is a nice area, but I rode around that area a few months ago and couldn’t believe the number of abandoned run down homes for sale. Some where nice but man, some were just a complete dump. And I’m talking about in the subdivisions around the schools and the golf course.

I think what scruffy is saying is that instead of spreading that money through our plethora of state-funded universities, to consolidate and spend that same amount of money on a few major universities. We’re not paying too much for higher education, we’re paying for too many institutions.
This X1000. Per capita, we have way too many colleges and universities, etc.
The whole system including the boards that oversee things need to be scrapped and worked on.

For some reason it seems the areas of the south that weren’t good for growing cotton are better off

Hey, you wanna quick fix? Get 3/4 of La citizens off of welfare. Cut the free handouts and start putting those poor “disabled” and lazy people to work instead of sitting in their beat up trailers and section housing consumed with how they’re gonna get their next hit of whatever drug or alcohol they’re into. Got nothing better to do but make more and more clones of themselves to suck even more hardworking Americans paychecks into their stamp books.

Why stop there? Half the state needs to be nuked away.
Posted on 6/20/18 at 1:28 pm to TDcline
State police have over 2800 employees and get over 400 million a year. Do we really need 400 million a year going to LSP? You cant go a mile without running over a tropper in Houma. Could the LSP be done away with all together?

Bigger problem is getting companies to come to LA and invest in the states future when everyone who runs the state has no clue what they are doing.
