Why? Where else could something like this be written with an actual audience that reads it? It's a good article.

Most people in the US don't pay income tax. That's not exclusive to Louisiana.

You do know that NOLA is in Louisiana, right? It's the "LA" part in case you had trouble putting that together.

This whiny article provided zero solutions. Not one. It in fact mocked several possible solutions like legalizing weed. Louisiana's real problem are people like Morris who like to blow hot air about a spending problem and not provide a single idea on revenue.

True, but is LA’s percentage higher or lower than the US average?

To me the biggest problem is a poorly and corruptly formed constitution that makes productive change impossible. Because our constitution was abused to support cronyism its very structure and content has made it impossible for responsible management of the state. And it's going to stay that way regardless of who ever is in charge.

Without looking it up I'd guess higher, but my point is people not paying income tax isn't the root of the problem.

Until we get a governor who has the nuts to change it. They are all so worried about whose toes they are stepping on and getting re-elected as opposed to being a state leader and coming up with ways to improve the state.

I’d rather live poor in Louisiana than rich in Austin or Los Angeles with those cum guzzlers.

Let's stop spending so much on cronyism and repetitive million dollar "studies," then we can talk about raising revenue. Have to patch the hole before you scope the water out.

Always knew Texas was better and really never compared us to Texas. But, I have always thought of Alabama as a backwards place and people like us. However, I have been travelling a lot through there recently. And top to bottom Alabama is far better than Louisiana. I have been shocked at how much nicer it is compared to us.

ETA: It isn't because they are taxed more than us either. They are not.

That’s the spirit. Call places that have their shite together and are profitable “cum guzzlers”

A closed minded approach to outsiders and being defensive of states/cities that are doing exponentially better than us has worked so well for us to this point. Let’s continue to shite on profitable states while drowning in our #50 economy.

What could even be done then? What's necessary to be able to scrap the constitution and start over on it? I really don't know, but I imagine it's a pretty high bar that requires a lot of collaborative support.

Alabama and Mississippi have surpassed Louisiana by a long shot in the last decade. Mississippi, more slowly, but it’s definitely happening. Madison would easily be far and away the nicest city in Louisiana.

Louisiana chest beaters don’t have much to look down on Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas anymore. They all have a better economic forecast.
