Stupid myth
I believe I read something that suggested this is very exaggerated and a relatively small amount of southern italians have the african blood

I just find it amazing that not many people talk about the Italian influence on this state, particularly New Orleans. Especially since, according to this article I linked, in a 50 year span, 300,000 Italians (primarily Sicilians) immigrated to the New Orleans area.

My dad side is part of this Italian immigration to New Orleans. My mom side is French...Cajun French. The French were not immigrants. The French were settlers. The French were in Louisiana French territory before Louisiana was a state. I think the distinction between immigrant and settler is important.

First of the Mafia was LA, not East Coast.

My great grandparents got off the train in Plaquemine, La from Palermo, Sicily and settled in Plaquemine, BR, New Roads and spread out across the area mostly South of Baton Rouge

My grandmother's family settled in Assumption parish. They changed their name on arrival to the US from Pulgliese to Politz.

My wife’s grandfather was a Gottardi form Trieste. He ended up in Honduras working for the United Fruit Company and married her Honduran grandmother. All 3 of their children were educated in New Orleans as part of a company program, if I remember the story correctly. Both grandparents eventually moved to Louisiana to help raise the grandchildren.

You need to read yours.

First off, the Muslims who invaded Sicily were descended from Arabs who had previously invaded Northern Africa. Secondly, the very small North African DNA in Sicilians is from the women and children left behind when the Muslims were kicked off the island. DNA has proven that Sicilians are descended by the original inhabitants of the island and they’re closely genetically related to other southern Italians. The average Redneck like you in the US probably has more African DNA than a Sicilian.

The Progressives Men's Club in Shreveport started because Italians were not allowed in some of the private clubs.

When my mom got my dad to the Ancestry.com dna test so the Mormons could examine us for incest or serial killer connections, it came back with typical Italian and Greek dna. 1-3% African estimate, which I think most people get.

Also, I'm pretty sure the people making the "eggplant" comments from their True Romance history education, are completely ignorant of what North Africans look like now - let alone hundreds of years ago.

They never mention Moors occupying Spain for hundreds of years because that was never in a Quentin Tarantino script.

Tarantino added that to the script as sort of a joke. He knew an afrocentrist that cracked him up. He claimed the Moors were black among many other things of course, so he thought it would be funny. Fast forward and the internet has run with it. One has to wonder if Tarantino regrets it.

Bawcomville is actually an Italian settlement. Comes from a small community that migrated over in the early 1900s and settled near West Monroe.

Legend has it, they created the famous Christmas parade.

I remember hearing this in the 2000’s… no idea if it was true then though.

Yep, I don't think it lasted that long, but would be interested to know when this did end.

The only reason I know about this is back in the early 2000's my step-mom who was a member, invited my wife and I and her Mom there and I asked my mother-in-law if she'd ever been here and that's when she told me no that when she was younger Italians were not allowed.

It's almost a guarantee that I know you and that you are probably related to my wife's family.

They are all from the Tickfaw/Independence area and have been since the early 1900's. Former strawberry farmers and business owners.
