re: Where is the most unusual place you would ever expect to see a Cajun restaurant? - yccsmf
Wife and kids are in Chicago visiting family and went to a food festival. There was a “Cajun food” booth...they skipped over that one....

re: 10,000 Push-Ups Challenge - Challenge Complete - yccsmf
I had been in a workout drought because I work a pretty labor intensive job and was too worn out to get in the gym. I remembered reading about this challenge on the board and figured I would try it to see if it might rejuvenate me, and it absolutely has! I’m at 1,920 for July and I plan on at least ...

I haven’t had that one, but I’ve had the Voo Doo Imperial and it’s pretty good. I’ll have to give this one a try....

re: OT dads, how do you handle this situation where the outcome doesn’t end in prison? - yccsmf
My son is 21 and has never given me any trouble and definitely would never behave like this. But I still could never throw a punch at him if he became confrontational. I don’t understand how a father would want to punch their son in the face. I could easily restrain him until he calmed down, and giv...

re: Landscaping Cost - yccsmf
Small...I am full time and lead both our grass maintenance crew and the landscape/bed maintenance crew...which are the same people, lol. My wife has a part time job but holds our landscape horticulture license...she’s the brains of the operation...and she does all of the design and bidding. We’ve gr...

re: Landscaping Cost - yccsmf
Absolutely, many of our customers give us a budget to work within. And we let them know options to stay within their budget, and ways to have the ability to add things in the future. I’m biased, but my wife does a great job listening to our potential customer and giving them what they want and withi...

re: Landscaping Cost - yccsmf
And that has happened for us...we didn’t have the best price, but my wife did a better job giving the customer a design based on what they communicated to her during their meetings. In the end they agreed to pay more because of that along with our reputation for doing good work from the person who r...

re: Landscaping Cost - yccsmf
You’re probably right that it makes no business sense, lol, my wife and I are both retired educators with no background in business. I personally just feel that to adjust pricing based on how “busy” I am is no different than contractors who price gouge after natural disasters. My wife bids jobs, she...

re: Landscaping Cost - yccsmf
Yep, same for us, we don’t price based on how busy we are. The price is based on the cost of materials, which vary, and the amount of labor to do the job. I have heard of companies that give inflated quotes if they are “too busy” and take it if the customer accepts, but I couldn’t do that. We price ...

re: Landscaping Cost - yccsmf
Need a lot more information...type/size plants, type of mulch, type of edging, how much bedding soil will be brought in, any rock border between beds and house, landscape fabric under rock, etc. 800 square feet is a good amount of bed area, but you could get a lot of landscaping done for that price ...

re: What is your relationship like w your parents now that you’re grown - yccsmf
My mom and dad divorced when I was 13. I was the youngest of 4 and by the time I was 16 it was only my mom and I at home. We became very close, actually a combination of mother/son, but also, friends who did everything together including vacation and occasionally eating out. I didn’t get married unt...

re: Muddy alley between houses - Advice Needed - yccsmf
Depending on which rock you choose, you could diy in the range of $300-$400. 4 yards of rock and some landscape fabric and 1 length of metal edging. You could also drop a flagstone path if it’s an area you need to traffic. A much cheaper option, and I’ve done it for the exact problem you discuss, is...

re: On the eve of opening day, let's share some baseball memories - yccsmf
Watching the 1975 Reds/Red Sox WS with my grandfather. He loved baseball and I grew up next door and we would always watch the all star game and the WS together at his house. I really miss that man and can’t see MLB without thinking of him....

re: Replacing soil in flower bed - yccsmf
Find a landscape materials supplier in your area and tell them what you want to do. They will have everything you need (bed builder/pre emergent herbicide/fertilizer/mulch) and can probably give good advice if they’re staffed by people like I deal with in my area. DO NOT add top soil to your beds......
