They don't have much of a choice to do much else with the emergency rules enacted on them currently.

I'm struggling with y'alls logic on this

Y'all believe they are purposely inflating the numbers to get a small % of money to help them during these shutdowns, despite the fact that the government is using their numbers to prolong the shut downs that are causing far more financial damage than they are receiving in return?

This is your logic?

The 20% is for anyone coded as COVID-19, U07.1.

That's false.

It's only for Medicare. Medicaid, or uninsured admits. Private insured admits are only collecting from their insurers.

Privates insurance companies are still paying their base rate for admissions and ventilations because they are much higher than the Medicare reimbursement tables.

If you don't think the hospitals are playing fast and loose with their coding to get that 20% bump, you're naive. They are all hurting, bad, for revenue and will get it wherever they can.

You don't have any idea what you are talking about. Prior to COVID, when a hospital vented a Medicare patient, they expected a loss because Medicare reimbursement for ventilation is so low.

The 20% increase with COVID is supposed to help with lost revenue but the problem is that a COVID patient stays on the vent around 50% longer than the normal ventilated patient.

So every vented COVID patient under Medicare, Medicaid, or uninsured, is a larger revenue loss for the system that was occurring pre-COVID.

The longer the COVID restrictions on hospitals take place, the more revenue these systems lose. If the healthcare system was to defraud the figures in their favor, they'd be coding everything as non-COVID.

you're naive

My grandfather's sister in law... I suck at heredity so I'm not sure what is the correct way to label her besides family. Anyways she was 96 and battling cancer the last 6 months. She's been in hospice care and finally passed away a couple of weeks ago. Her death was labeled a COVID 19 death. Now this is what my dad told me after talking with his cousin. She said the family doesn't know why they listed her as a COVID 19 death. Drs didn't say for certain she tested positive and the immediate family was left wondering if they needed to quarantine as possible carries. I don't know that side of the family so I'm not sure of the outcome or have any new updates. This was in CA if it really matters.

Why don’t do a little research, it is well documented that it is not just deaths, nationwide emergency departments are not seeing but a fraction of the usual heart attacks, strokes, appendicitis’s, etc., and no one has a good explanation.

No one is talking about "fear". We are showing how conspiracy theorists take really bad information regardless of source and interpretation and treat it as gospel.

You are all for the only two more weeks

The numbers of death have been faked

Sorry that bothers you

Yes.

These are the same people who argue that the measures taken were not needed, while citing numbers that are a direct result of the measures taken.

A few things are true.

A) It's likely there are more deaths attributable to COVID-19 than the current tally.

B) It's likely the mortality rate of COVID-19 is substantially lower than the case fatality rate based on background antibody tests that are being done.

C) There are a substantial amount of COVID-19 deaths that are being "pulled forward." In other words, people who would have died in the next year or so that are dying now. If 20,000 more people than normal die in New York through June, you must also account for how much fewer people than normal die in the next 6 months.

Yeah I agree with all of that.

Only time and painstaking will reveal exact numbers. However, what the OP is doing by using data that was available 2 weeks ago is simply unsound from any perspective since only about 1/2 of the total death stats of any type were available immediately.

There's not a system in place in which every agency immediately files a death certificate in real time.

I think you actually have a valid point here. They are playing the same games they do with the flu numbers.

CDC numbers

I’m seeing 2 categories that should matter in the CDC data:

1. All COVID deaths (U07.1): 34,521
2. Deaths from pneumonia AND COVID. (If both are listed on death certificate): 15,301

That equals 49,822

Now the total numbers of pneumonia deaths which encompasses all types of pneumonia including COVID but also run of the mill bacterial pneumonia is 62,725

The 62k number is the one currently being used. I think that’s bullshite. I agree you have a point here stout. Good work.

I don’t necessarily buy into the idea that there’s some massive conspiracy at play here, but it’s not crazy to think hospitals would try to take advantage of any additional reimbursement they can receive. I would expect individual hospitals/departments act in their own self-interest.

It’s like saying “wait, so you think people cheat on their taxes knowing it will just lead to higher tax rates?”

Am I also a conspiracy theorist for believing this was drastically overblown and instead of doubling down on restrictions these last few weeks, we should’ve been safely phasing our normal life back?

Should I return to my White right wing Q forum?

You just make stuff up. I have been for a phase 1 opening in Louisiana beginning Monday for a few weeks now. My post from 4/4:

Louisiana will be one of the first. I'm optimistic that Louisiana begins to reopen non-essential business the first week in May with some significant social distancing measures.

You either don't understand basic data or you purposely misconclude on it so as to support your preconceived, false notions.

First, it was that there would be no or minimal deaths here. Then, people start dying and then they are fake deaths. You will go to any lengths to rationalize it.

Doctors and states have admitted you are labeled as a covid death without results of a test. Probably turns into yes.

You might not find issue in this. But I don't like our government making decisions off of garbage data. This is a huge fricking problem.

No, that is not the number being used. If you read the legend notes below the chart, CDC explains that results lag from 1 to 8 weeks while info is collected from states and processed by CDC.

The 65K deaths that are being shown as CoVid deaths by various website and news outlets are coming directly from the individual states as reported by each state's Dept. of Health on a daily basis. Some of which will not be reflected in CDC figures for up to 8 weeks.
