CA's biggest issue would be if Covid spread rapidly in the 96% of uninfected people.
No one, not even the crazies are going to keep things shut down till that time. So why not now, why not just let er rip. If we wait until we have a drug and a vaccine we will be eating our shoes.

The Navy ship was due to projections that there could be 25k deaths in that period instead of 11k. Thank God those turned out to be high but also glad they were somewhat prepared for that scenario. .
However, that does not change the basic fact: NYC's total of 10k over the period discussed is still 1900 below actual deaths without cause counted so far even without all death certificates even being filed yet!
Unless there was some mass suicide event you can be pretty certain that some of those 1900 need to be added to the Covid total.

It is pushing this information to reduce the seriousness of Covid-19. It is grouping random illnesses and diseases for this purpose. Im just curious have you checked these numbers to make sure they are correct?

The senator from Minnesota was correct, hospitals get paid up to several times more by CMS if a patient has a Covid-19 diagnosis code, and several times more than that if the patient is placed on a ventilator.
Here's a pretty thorough fact check from USA Today. They state that the payment estimates are variable from place to place, but accurate overall, and their conclusion is that the senator's statements re the level of hospital for Covid-19 reimbursement were true.

They can throw in some patients that have not been able to directly see cardiologists and rheumatologists yet except for telemedicine calls as COVID related at some point. By time some of these get to emergency point (especially heart or vascular related) it may be too late.
On a similar but slightly different note my regular family dr wanted to use doxy.me for telemedicine med check even as it's getting low security reviews for not having a lot known about it. Throw people using Zoom. Even if not effected by its install issues, sharing data issues, or zoom bombing issues people initially thought was end to end encryption not knowing it was unencrypted while passing through zoom servers and then reencrypted going to other end. Seemed to even be some high level company & various govt meetings using zoom probably talking about insider info on top of personal info shared between businesses and individual clients while using it.
Other day I was incorrectly sent a Dropbox link from an attorney's office to view plaintiff's files from OLOL as part of a lawsuit that used my email mistaking it for a doctor's involved somehow (I am not a Dr nor do I live in BR; or have any relationship with OLOL or attorney's office they just miskeyed email I guess). I thought it was fake until names checked out (i reported it to Dropbox and didn't look at files).
There were a lot of organizations not ready for secure communications or data sharing that went with free or cheap, and a lot of hackers or just bad companies salivating when thinking about all the data they might be able to get at. Security is improving which is good for all, but I just think some damage already done that will come back and bite people later.

Looks like they went from 13000
to 5000?
While car accidents, homicide, etc should decrease. I can't imagine they'd decrease that much.
I'd like to see just FLU, HEART DISEASE, PNEUMONIA, CANCER. That'd give a fair comparison.
But, definitely some shadiness going on.
