you turn on the news and the headlines read we are at war
You also turn on the news and see CBS playing footage from a hospital in Rome and playing it off as if it is a hospital in NYC. That has a little something to do with ignoring the news

All 3 of the outlets?
It's 2020 not 2002, there are conservative voices all over the place.
Now they've got y'all thinking Twitter and Facebook are kicking people off their platform for being conservative, which is hilariously false as well.

Today is a profoundly shitty day on the OT

Sure there are "voices" that have to be actively sought out. It's interesting that you changed from "media' to "voices"

Not here, I just point out that most of the news everyone is getting is slanted to the left a good bit

I think it's fair to question what qualifies as media in 2020. I would say someone like Ben Shapiro qualifies, wouldn't you?

Yet far-right Sinclair media owns literally hundreds of local news stations. The highest rated cable TV station is right leaning, talk radio is dominated by the right, and 2 of the 3 most circulated national newspapers are right leaning.

News is selling fear right now.
It's what they've always done, but it is worse now. In the 70's, Monroe's TV stations led with local murders. Now they lead with whatever murder in the world is the most gruesome, the worst one in the US, the worst one in the state, and then they tell about the local ones. Poor sports guy gets cheating out of his air time.

in red, rural counties in my state people do not do social distancing.
eventually their pissant
regional hospitals will be northern italy.
the good news for them is that the blue north have worked out everything so they will benefit later.
looking at county maps, there are huge areas in plains states with no cases.
they dont get much international travel from wuhan or alpine skiers.
cv19 is just on tv.

Sure, but he's not on the news which is what this thread is discussing. That's still something that you have to actively seek out

It's kind of hard to take someone seriously if you are going to argue there isn't a major slant to the left in the majority of our tv and newspapers. I'll give you the talk radio, but I'm not even certain that is correct because I don't seek out much talk radio

So If I don't start out by accepting your premise, one that you've been sold and conditioned to accept uncritically for years, then YOU won't take ME seriously??

It's more that it is fairly obvious which way the tv stations and newspapers are slanted.

It’s a lot more complicated than you want to believe. It’s more of a pro- establishment slant than it is left or right.

I want to tell friends to check out the stickied thread on the Poli Talk and to the big thread on the OT .. but then I realize my efforts would be futile.

Man, everyone wants that drug to work. I’m so glad the FDA is allowing it to be used in the most severe cases. Economically and medically, we need a miracle to happen.
Not CNN. Let's see, a few weeks ago they called it Trump's snake oil making fun of him.

People in general are stupid as frick.
The lack of self awareness and hypocrisy is off the charts.
They make a statement like "your media is lying to you". All while thinking that their media outlets are on the up and up.
It's astounding.

Jules Verne explained this trait in Americans with this passage in Around the World in 80 Days:
"But the bridge is unsafe," urged the conductor.
"No matter," replied Forster; "I think that by putting on the very highest speed we might have a chance of getting over."
"The devil!" muttered Passepartout.
But a number of the passengers were at once attracted by the engineer's proposal, and Colonel Proctor was especially delighted, and found the plan a very feasible one. He told stories about engineers leaping their trains over rivers without bridges, by putting on full steam; and many of those present avowed themselves of the engineer's mind.
"We have fifty chances out of a hundred of getting over," said one.
"Eighty! ninety!"
Passepartout was astounded, and, though ready to attempt anything to get over Medicine Creek, thought the experiment proposed a little too American. "Besides," thought he, "there's a still more simple way, and it does not even occur to any of these people! Sir," said he aloud to one of the passengers, "the engineer's plan seems to me a little dangerous, but—"
"Eighty chances!" replied the passenger, turning his back on him.
"I know it," said Passepartout, turning to another passenger, "but a simple idea—"
"Ideas are no use," returned the American, shrugging his shoulders, "as the engineer assures us that we can pass."
"Doubtless," urged Passepartout, "we can pass, but perhaps it would be more prudent—"
"What! Prudent!" cried Colonel Proctor, whom this word seemed to excite prodigiously. "At full speed, don't you see, at full speed!"
"I know—I see," repeated Passepartout; "but it would be, if not more prudent, since that word displeases you, at least more natural—"
"Who! What! What's the matter with this fellow?" cried several.
The poor fellow did not know to whom to address himself.
"Are you afraid?" asked Colonel Proctor.
"I afraid? Very well; I will show these people that a Frenchman can be as American as they!"
"All aboard!" cried the conductor.
"Yes, all aboard!" repeated Passepartout, and immediately. "But they can't prevent me from thinking that it would be more natural for us to cross the bridge on foot, and let the train come after!"
"But the bridge is unsafe," urged the conductor.
