You got me all teared up baw. With aging parents getting close to the end of their life this is something I constantly think about. I’m so sorry.

I use to get think about death a lot. Then I realized it’s just nature’s way. I don’t like to get old but if I don’t get old, how does my daughter grow up and live her life? That’s just how Mother Nature is. Nothing personal.

I'm sorry Sarge. I did that a few years ago up near Austin with a guy I grew up with. It's quite a thing the love between friends, and saying farewell. Keeping you in my prayers too, buddy.

Funeral homes fixin’ to get fat on handling up on the halves.

It (death) sucks a bunch of the time.

Hey Ponchy

My dad died in 2007. Every year since, I take 2 days for myself - Father's Day and the anniversary of his death. I never have anything planned out special. Just all to myself.

Never discussed this with my wife but she knows not to disturb me.

Do what you must and don't apologize to anyone.

I know how you feel, Old Sarge. 2023 was a tough year for me, losing my two best adult friends and several more I have known since childhood.
If I have learned anything, it’s to try and reach out whenever I hear of someone I know going through something bad.
Remember…YOU were the one that was there.

I'm sorry to hear it. I watched my mom take her last breath two days ago. I'm never getting over that.

I am very sorry. Hits close to home. Reason 350 why we should take nothing for granted.

Hang in there.

Yeah, more and more people are leaving. Lost 3 siblings and my mom since 2016. My mom and brother in August and November of 2022.

And I'm only 61, not young but not that old. My mom told my baby sister after my second sister had passed in 2018 that she just didn't think she could bury any more children, so I am glad she went home before my brother. But it does leave a void.

All the people that have been in my memories and constantly in my life from the very beginning are gone now. I'm just really happy that I can be here for my little sister, hopefully for a while.

Hardest thing in the World. To the degree that one loves, one relatively suffers the loss of said love.

Go to Faith, if that is an option. Otherwise, it'll be all over for you as well, soon enough. And I'll likely beat you to 'room temperature'.

Prayers. Regardless.

May warm memories replace that void Old Sarge. Life is a precious gift from the Lord.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is it's never easy. They say time heals all wounds. I'm not sure time can heal the wound of losing someone that was close to you. It does eventually become more bearable, but IMO, it never heals.

my grandad was my best friend, he retired early to keep me as a baby while my parents were at work. every day after school i walked to my grandparents after school till my parents picked me up. not a day goes by i don't miss him, that was 27 years ago.

Same here. Dad died 7 years ago yesterday. My son is a junior in high school and I can tell you that it makes all of these feelings very near to the surface. Seems like yesterday that we were playing his favorite game "crash" around the kitchen island when he was 1 and a half to 4 (demolition derby on kids riding toys). About an hour ago I went outside to "talk" to my dad and came in and made him promise me we'd play crash one more time before he leaves for college. He was totally up for it. Never knew how much those silly little games and all the other things we've done as he's grown up meant to me until now, when I feel our time together in this house winding down.

Squeeze every drop out of life when it comes to your family.
