Held his hand, said a prayer, talked to him for the last time, kissed him on the forehead and tearfully told him I loved him and had to be going, as they came to start making my dear friend comfortable for the inevitable

I guess you're at the age that life takes more than it gives. I am as well.

None of us are getting out of here alive.

Sorry for your pain... Thank God there are folks to help both of you through this... One day somebody will do the same for you.

I don’t understand how terrible of a human being you have to be to downvote this.

Sorry for your loss.
It's a pain that's undescribable, seemingly intensified if someone is younger.
Sadly, bc of my past, a lot of my friends passed away at a young age. I still think of them almost every day and to this day I'll still shed a tear thinking about some of the good times we had and how much I miss them.
Also, I had a cousin that passed away right when he was entering his teens. It messed my aunt up very bad, still to this day and that was over 10 years ago.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is it's never easy. They say time heals all wounds. I'm not sure time can heal the wound of losing someone that was close to you. It does eventually become more bearable, but IMO, it never heals.
I hope you can find some peace and remember the times y'all had together and appreciate you were able to share that time with a good friend. As we all know, life is fragile and IMO, the memories and experiences friends and family share together are what really matter in the end.

Some people don't get a chance to say goodbye.
As tough as it seems, count your blessings.

He’s going back home to our Source. To a better place. The experiences and the memories and the love are eternal. Let those comfort you.

I am fortunate enough to have only lost family and friends to primarily old age or at least death after 55, which is a solid run.
I’ve always had the take that if you die at like 60 or up what is there to be sad about, it was always inevitable.
Idk what will happen when I lose somebody very close to me to a tragedy or lose my mom/dad. Maybe I’ll stay consistent, but I doubt it.
Gf’s mom is currently going through stage 4 lung cancer and it’s been a nightmare for us. Lots of random crying and idk wtf to say without sounding like a dickhead.

Sorry for your loss. Hopefully you can keep good memories of your dear friend.
I'm afraid that I might be coming upon a similar situation in the near future. 3 of my good friends are all older than me and all 3 are in very poor health. One is battling cancer, one is battling internal bleeding and needs both a kidney and liver transplant, and the third has declining kidney function. I pray for them often and always try to be cheerful and helpful.

Sorry for your loss. I can tell you really loved your boyfriend.

The five best friends I ever had are all dead. Being a close friend to me is a death wish. Makes me reluctant to invest.
Sorry for your loss.

quote:I completely understand what you're saying here and agree except for the sad part. It's still sad to lose someone you were close to, even if they're older. But, I don't think it's as sharp of a pain bc you realize they had a chance to live their life.

Everyone deals with loss of life differently though. I had to quit going to funerals for 3 or 4 years bc I got sick of going and seeing all my friends laying in caskets. Did that make me an a-hole in others eyes? I'm sure it did. I'd think I was an a-hole too if I was them. But the pain of losing friends came too often and got to the point where I would get physically sick going to funerals.

I've lost 3 really good friends at way too early ages. All 3 were seriously good people. All 3 to freakish or stupid accidents. The kind who deserved to live to ripe old ages. Sadly, I know way too many of the other kinds & they seem to be invulnerable to anything & everything in life.

went through this with my Dad around this time last year. I lost him on the morning of February 10. As the date gets closer it gets tougher. Hang in there buddy and alcohol isn't the answer, the grief is still there when you sober up. You are doing the right thing spend every moment with your friend that you can.
