Compared to what Tel Aviv would look like right now if Israel didn’t have the missile defense systems? I’d say it’s doing ok.

Yes, it's working as anticipated. The success rate is somewhere near 90%, but Iran has launched 3 rounds of ballistic attacks now with hundreds of warheads, rockets, and missiles in each round.
A few were always going to make it through. Israel is about as westernized as any country outside the US, the few that make it through are going to get social media and MSM coverage just like if a few out of hundreds had hit here.
You're seeing the hits and not the thousands of intercepts (there's plenty of video of those too though). The Iron Dome at work is impressive to witness, even with the few it lets through

Mossad and Israel's military spent months and pretty much infiltrated Iran's entire nuclear and military complex, and killed everyone important - including top nuclear scientists - and destroyed nuclear facilities before Iran even knew Israel was acting.
The coordinated and timed first strike by Israel to decapitate Iran without warning will be studied by generals and Intel agencies for decades to come.
If you think Israel is flailing or "writing checks they can't cash" here you obviously haven't read up on what truly started this

I've looked at several decent sources that regularly report on Israel, and I've seen reports of one, maybe two civilians killed. I haven't seen much out of Tel Aviv, which I think is dealing with what they're calling three "impacts" in a few different neighborhoods.
