I prefer a female GP. I’ve had bad experiences with guy doctors who seem to just not give a shite about listening.

My doc is a petite immigrant from India. She’s super smart and is great at helping me manage my health.

My urologist handles my private parts. Thankfully, he has long fingers so he doesn’t have to push hard to reach my prostate. Size does matter it seems.

My gastroenterologist deals with my digestive system, upper and lower. He sings to his patients while they’re being sedated. He says they relax more quickly and come out of sedation easier. I can verify that.

Male, but the 2 nurse practitioners in the office are female and they're usually easier to get an appointment with than he is. For most things I'll just see one of them.

If you want a z pack, inhaler, and steroid taper that won’t help you, every time you have the sniffles, this is the way to go.

Does it really matter? I never even knew this was a thing until a couple weeks ago.

I haven't really had a primary care doctor since I finished college, just decided to start getting back into the routine of regular checkups recently. When I scheduled my appointment, they asked if I had a preference for a male/female doctor. I had no idea people actually did or that they would ask.

ETA: My doctor was a woman.

NP's and PA's most certainly can write rx's for those 3 things you listed.

Honestly, you get so desensitized as a physician to seeing genitalia that it shouldn't matter. What's more important is how you connect with them, if they listen to you, give you time, etc. The only difference you might notice is that maybe female physicians won't be able to give you a visceral description about how certain procedures feel like, in a qualitative sense, but in terms of clinical scope there shouldn't be a big difference based on gender alone.

White male, Indian male or Asian male.
I want to be sure they got in to med school on merit not race or gender.
Can't make medical a check the box industry and expect me to not wonder how the black or woman became a doctor.

Female in her mid-late 30's and she is great. She explains things and actually listens better than my previous male doctor.

Better option than the previous PCP with fat knuckles.

However, I will add that a female urologist, with those small, slender fingers, is AOK with me.

My first exam was from a doctor that I can only describe as either an NBA center or O-lineman. Dude was all of 6'4". That wasn't a good day.

I don't have a primary doctor and I haven't really since I was in college. But one time in college when I was getting a physical done, I had a female doctor. She wasn't like a complete smokeshow, but she was an attractive woman probably in her low 40s.

In any case, as she started feeling around down there, doing the cough-test, etc. I started to get a boner. It wasn't a complete hard-on but it definitely grew. She made no reference to it, continued the physical as normal. and that was that. I was slightly embarassed, but moreso I was scared shitless that she would report me for sexual harassment or some shite and I would get expelled.
