99.9% of the time it would be fine to leave doors unlocked.

Locks are on the door for a reason.

We live in an extremely safe area and the second night after we moved in some drunk college student came right in through the back door that I forgot to lock thinking it was his friends house. Total shite faced drunk and was zero threat and I’m thankful every day I didn’t follow impulse and just shoot him over a dumbass mistake.

That being said i put electric locks on all our doors that I can monitor off our alarm app. Worth it.

My dog, alarm system and guns say I'm ok to sleep with the doors unlocked. Still lock them as one more security measure.

Yes, I can. Got to love country living. Also live down a dead end street that is 2 miles away from the next road.

Honestly, an unlocked door there would likely worry me as much if not more than my neighborhood where there’s a lot of eyes and folks know each other

That's fricking stupid. He can get them on camera trying to break in, but does he really want to be asleep and have some low life go inside his house? There is no telling what could happen if he decides to confront them. It could result in him being injured or him having to shoot someone, that's something I would think you would rather avoid.

My house? No.

My BiL passed away a couple of years ago. He lived in Maryland but they were going to bury him in Alabama. He had lived on a farm, in old house with his mom and older brother. Before they could come south for the funeral, they had to put locks on the the doors. No one could remember a time when there had been no one at the house. One of the doors had a lock, but no one, not even may 90-year-old MiL could remember ever seeing a key for it. The house was built in 1837.

My neighborhood? Yes

But people can drive into my neighborhood and I’d rather not make things too easy on them.

Not locking your doors is stupid. If something does happen, insurance will tell you to kick rocks.

Yes it is, but in this day and age I still wouldn't do it.

I don't live in a neighborhood, country here. My wife has left her purse in the front seat with windows down overnight a couple times. Pissed me off, but not a single issue.

Doors have been left in locked, detached garage wide open on occasion....

Everything is locked and double checked 99%+ of the time, but the handful of times something's been left open or unlocked... There has never been an issue.

i'd feel safe, although it's not usually the people in your neighborhood who will rob and kill you. Those come from NBR. They scout during the day, and rob you during the night. It's like a job to them. So seeing that I don't know who drives by my home during the day, I have to assume that at some point during the week at least one or two criminals with ill intent will scout my street, and neighborhood.

We had one house in our neighborhood with a Biden sign, so I'm going to say no.

Yes, but I lock them. Have forgotten back and front doors a few times. I left my garage open over night and my brand new, $3000 set of golf clubs were right by the garage entrance. Anybody walking or driving by would have seen them. Still there in the morning.
