Been asked a few times to show my receipt. If nobody’s in line I will. If the line is long I just roll past and say no thanks and keep going. Definitely have to at sam’s or Costco since you sign paperwork saying you have to if your leaving with items. Worst I’ve ever been told is “excuse me sir” at wal mart. You don’t be a jerk and make a scene and threaten lawsuits or say I’m gonna video. If they have evidence, they can stop me then. I big deal.

Public service announcement: Walmart has no means or ability to stop you and force you over to the side as you’re leaving and inspect your bags. If they have probable cause to suspect that you have stolen something, they can call the police. But they don’t. They are just checking everyone and that is not legal.
Costco and Sam’s can get away with this to a degree because they are a private membership club. Not complying with their provisions can result in you being kicked out of the club but they have no legal mechanism to detain you or force you to stop to inspect your receipt.

Wally has HD cameras at the checkouts,similar to casinos.Also HD cameras on select aisles such as laundry detergent and fishing tackle.There is nothing in Walwart that I would consider stealing.

They used to just check the receipt visually for stuff that was unbagged. Recently, they started using a handheld scanner to scan your receipt and maybe one item. Most of the time it's an unbagged item but it seems like they reached into one of the bags and scanned something for the lady in front of me last time I was there. The door person apologized, saying something like, "Sorry for the delay, they're making us do this now."
Maybe it has something to do with them using more self-checkout lanes, and they're kind of randomly checking to make sure customers are actually scanning their items when they check themselves out?

I walk by, and don’t stop; while telling them, as I point, I just went through cashier over there and was handed this receipt after my things were scanned and pd for.
