They do not now, nor have they ever checked bags. They check your receipt against unbagged items, and most stores have for years.
There are a lot of stupid people in this thread.

They scan the receipt then scan the unbagged items. If the items are not on the receipt it alerts them and you can either pay for them or leave them there.
I know some Walmart’s are recovering over $100,000 a month by doing this from people not scanning all their stuff at the scan and go registers.
And some Walmart’s have local officers outside in their patrol cars with a radio that they can be alerted on if someone refuses to stop or causes a scene when they are being checked for unbagged items.

I've seen it. Not my bags because of white privilege.

They check at my walmart but I never ever slow down for those people. Once I buy it, it's mine. I don't have to let anyone search my stuff without a legal warrant. The rest of you need to quit letting companies run over you.

You have no idea what your talking about.

Exactly what I was saying in my earlier post. They don’t have the right to examine your receipt or go through your bags or make you stop for anything. You can keep right on walking and there’s not a damn thing they can do.
This is helpful-
Legal requirements for receipt check

That’s a great article, especially the common sense ending
