The local morning news just kicked over to the CBS Morning Show and they ran a story on the cost of new cars and trucks going up, up, up. Up 38% compared to ten years ago. $50,000 price tags and more. Loans stretched out to 8 and 9 years.

They blame the bells and whistles loaded with sensors, cameras, video screens, etc.

Do y'all think there's room for a new car company that could make cars at reasonable price?

Would cost a fortune to be a startup in making vehicles today. Would be more likely for another Kia/Hyundai to invade the US market than a startup.

Sure, there might be a market for them, but the capital required to effectively bring enough vehicles to consumers is so incredible that I don't see it happening.

This isn’t the reason cheap loans are the reason prices have skyrocketed. If financing is available, prices will continue to rise.

Much like the cost of education

Tesla came in not that long ago. Half the OT actively roots against them for some reason though

it's expensive because the current car makers have lobbied for regulations that make it nearly impossible to start up and compete.

the price of cars can be traced directly back to government intervention in the "free market" we all run around believing we have

What do you think Tesla et all are?

With all the regulations and other bullshite involved, any new producer would need to be making expensive cars to fill a niche because they can’t compete on low price against everyone who has much larger scale productions.

The US government may not allow that to happen. That’s why genesis is a brand of Hyundai in the US but no where else in the world.

It may have to be a startup

This! The type 1 VW Beatle was still being sold new in other countries this century. Regulations and cheap financing as drove the prices up.

Too many people looking at the monthly bill and not looking at the term or price tag.

I’d be interested if a car company would be highly successful if it built basic, high quality cars that sell for under 20k.

No bells, whistles, you get cloth seats, stereo, power windows and locks, AC/Heater. But the car rides good, good gas mileage and lasts 200k plus miles with few issues

Zotye will likely look to fill this void.
