I think GM should bring Pontiac back as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3. Sporty electric sedans and crossovers in the $40K range

I’ve thought there might be a market for a no frills (so cheaper) reliable car that isn’t made intentionally difficult to repair/maintain.

That market is probably in India though.

The answer is not a new competitor. The answer is for us to stop being dumbasses only looking at the monthly note instead of the entire balance when we buy one of them. We're too focused on affording the monthly note instead of taking a step back and asking ourselves, "do I really want to pay over $40,000 for a vehicle?".

If we stop paying whatever they ask they'll come down.

'Murica & economics!

That was Saturn

FWIW, I loved my old Saturn. No frills, got me where I needed to go amd easy to work on.

Pushed 200k miles before I had to sell it.

They blame the bells and whistles loaded with sensors, cameras, video screens, etc.

They ignore the government mandated safety? Fuel economy standards?

There's a reason cars weigh (far) more than one built 20 years ago while being the same size and it isn't all because of the video screen in the dash.

That high strength steel and aluminum isn't cheap nor are the 10 air bags.
