That explains it. He has not worked for many years and couch surfs.
Hurricane and cigs are his steady diet; he does little odd jobs and they buy his beer/cigs. I was doing that until the drinking got to be more than the odd jobs were.
Being the town drunk has its advantages.

How long exactly has he been gone?
Did he say he was leaving or just ran to the store for a pack of smokes & didn’t come back?
Any communication at all?

Me, yes.
He is only 57 so no.
Edit to add, I am stupid to even think a marriage could work out with a hard working all my life female and a bum off the street male.
Maybe it was the attention by a younger man. I kick my own arse about it every hour on the hour.

Nothing affordable about the "Affordable Healthcare Act" (aka obamacare). So what happened to me - when the obamacare subsidies expired, the copays for my prescriptions and deductibles for my HMO plan exploded. So the thieving democrats and their RINO pals were successful in getting Congress to allocate funding for obamacare subsidies (now I know why the HMO's were eager to support obamacare), but to date I haven't seen my copays and deductibles go back down.
So I'm thinking I was the victim of the ole "bait and switch" as in the money allocated for the obamacare subsidies were either pocketed by my HMO plan ......or got misappropriated by the thieving crooks in Congress. I'll say it - I believe obamacare was a precursor to single payer govmint healthcare.
Did I mention I caught one of my cardiologist padding my bill (to the HMO) with treatments he did not perform?
Bottom line - I'm paying ridiculous copays for critical medications for my wife and me. And my wife needs lower spinal surgery but we can't afford the deductibles.
Sigh, if they're not killing us seniors with Covid-19 viruses, they're bumping up our copays and deductibles to where we can't afford critical medications and surgeries.
My theory on the cause of the problem - the Obama / Biden / mafia democrats and their Somali and Armenian crooks stole all the money.

No, I kicked him out last July. The companionship was good for a short time then he turned into the albatross around my neck.
Tried to get an annulment but there are no lawyers that will do it.

Far from that, bozo.
I just moved here from up in the snow and cold 3 years ago. Bought a house (paid cash) and needed a little help to get it to be what I wanted.
I didn't know him from Adam's left nut for a year and then he just started hanging around.

Did you try to file married joint or single? I get it, married is higher deduction, lower IRMAA and you will be in lower bracket if he has little/no reportable income. I dont know if they can come after you financially if he claimed ACA subsidies or Medicaid. You probably should talk to a tax professional and divorce attorney to sever financial ties with the deadbeat. If you.dont, he is gonna get SS survivor benefit when you pass and able to claim spouse benefit when he hits 62.

No, I would pay to get him out of my life but don't want to be paying out thousands for a divorce.
Did that before and I was treated like the men since I was the higher wage earner.
Believe me when I say there are reasons for an annulment.

The point was to drive costs up hoping we all vote for more government involvement.
