Key is to keep post tax savings and investments to draw from for early retirement to keep your income as low as possible. I’ll retire at 50 next year and Obamacare will cost next to nothing due to planning as such.
Saving 401k type withdrawals until Medicare kicks in.

And I am telling you know someone who makes 70k and will be getting some subsidies for Obamacare for THIS year 2026.
The eligibility cap is 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.
That's $60,000 for an individual and up to $125,000 for a family depending on size and other factors.
I would also imagine that at a certain income threshold, the subsidies are so small on inflated plans that you're just better off shopping around on your own if you are healthy.

Husband age 45 Wife age 43
3 dependants age 4, 7 and 10
70433 zip code
MAGI of 150,500 qualifies for a 1,356 per month subsidy
Unfortunately my clients MAGI is around 153,000
The solution...
They will simply deposit at least 2,500 or more into their available qualified retirement plans. HSA(Health Savings Account) or IRA

62500 for one single persons policy but you can have income to 125000 and still get a subsidy if you are a family of four. And Louisiana is on the low end of states in terms of these amounts, NY is higher for examplle (but then again salaries differ from state to state).
So I don't know who it was, you or someone else, who was talking about a 39000 cutoff but that is wrong.

No, but there is a 1095-A in your recent history.

It wasn't me
Because of our demographics Louisiana health ins premiums are much higher than average and it depends on how close you live to the "Urban" areas.
"Urban" is the politically correct term that the Ins industry is supposed to use now. LOL
If you live in Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Vermont, New Hampshire the cut off could be 39,000? Not sure but I can run the calculation and let you know.

Trump needs to pull the plug on that shite. Wonder why DOGE hasn’t
It's not an Obama program. It started under Reagan and was expanded under W. Bush.
Additionally, it is funded by the Universal Service Fund, which is supported by fees on consumer phone bills.
Yes it needs to end.

OP was referring to her 58 yo deadbeat husband who apparently signed up for benefits and it somehow flagged and/or prevented her from filing her tax return.

For my 8 downvoters let me qualify my answer.
Taxpayers paid for everything Obama did and does, and none of it, including Obama care was or is free to any taxpayer.
I hope that helps.

What are some of you talking about? I know people who make over 70k and get an Obama subsidy (legally) whats all this about no subsidies if you make over 38k and stuff?

I just moved here from up in the snow and cold 3 years ago. Bought a house (paid cash) and needed a little help to get it to be what I wanted.
You married an alcoholic bum because you needed odd jobs done around the house? This is a troll thread

The tax lady worked the numbers and I would have paid in the same amount I was going to get a refund of.
So I went and found him and hauled his arse down to the office. He talked to the IRS person and he had never signed up for it and never paid anything and that was a policy that he supposedly had the first part of 2024.
So, evidently, they do sign up people for it. The tax lady said they signed her niece up and she had a hard time cancelling.
I HATE the IRS.

Wait.. What? Who rejected it? The people doing your taxes or the IRS? Why did you put husband in quotes and where is he? Are yall actually married? There is a lot to unpack here.

Thankfully I was not That stupid.

The IRS rejected it the first time.
Damn, I have no idea if we are really married. We filled out a license ; a judge signed it and we never went to a wedding.
Wouldn't that be the shitz?
And, no. I wish I was a troll. Completely serious.

In Louisiana you have to do the following to be officially married.
- Get the license
- Have ceremony within 30 days
- Have officiant + 2 witnesses
- Return/file the signed license
What are you filing as?

And there is no Obamacare that is free.. Unless its Medicaid.
There are marketplace plans with subsidies and you can get credits that can reduce your monthly cost to $0/month, but most ACA still have deductibles and copays.

I'm paying ridiculous copays for critical medications for my wife and me.
You have probably looked into stuff like manufacturer assistance programs. If you haven’t, do.
Either way, you might also be able to get an assist by accessing donated meds. Check out this pharmacy nonprofit: LINK
The org collects mint condition unopened prescriptions and patients in need can get them for free. They don’t have controlled prescriptions or things that require refrigeration or anything, but maybe it will be helpful to you. Doesn’t matter if you have insurance. Unaffordable co-pay is reason enough.
