I have fond memories of 1985.

I was a kid and my world was simple. I spent my days riding my bike and trying to scrape up enough change for a snow cone and a pack of Garbage Pail Kids or a few video games at the laundromat around the corner from my house.

I’d love to just have a day - any day from that year. I’d just love to see if the city was as I remembered it. To see all the things that grew or changed or disappeared without my noticing.

As I get older - I realize how much of what we remember of our past is just an amalgamation of several years. It would be interesting to get a real snapshot of a time that was important to me.

I still have a bunch of these from the mid 80s. The cards, not unopened packs. Not sure why I kept them.

In 1923 I was on a boat heading from Africa to Egypt with a hot English board. The captain died and the ship turned over, but we were rescued and I wasn't sunburned in spite of being on the ocean all day with no shirt. Anyway, we were rescued by a British ship and I railed that unsunburned gal many more times.

Do you believe she still thinks about you?

I met a girl at Beta Convention when I was 14. She actually sought me out which I thought was the coolest thing ever. We hung out that day, went to the dance that night and said our goodbyes on the last day. She lived somewhere way up north Louisiana so talking on the phone was out of the question so we just wrote letters. That tapered off after a year or so.

I found her on Myspace twenty years ago (uncommon spelling of her first name and a long arse last name so easy to find). She didn't even remember who I was. I would be lying if I said it wasn't a slight gut punch.

This girl and I know some people in common and I could find out where she is and what she's doing if I wanted to, but I probably won't. I reconnected with someone in my past once before and it didn't turn out well. Some things are better left in the memory vault.

Most recently I would revisit 2012 and right a wrong. Otherwise, drop me off anywhere in the past and I would enjoy it…lots of good times!

Naaah...but there's many moments I remember clearly and they felt real, real good. Such as when I stepped off the plane visiting Charleston for my sister's wedding. I was in my senior year at LSU, had a great job lined up, future bright, got to see all my old friends from high school and felt on top of the world.

But my life has gotten progressively better and I look forward to each new day.

I don’t want to go back to my happiest time. I’d rather it stay the happiest in my memory. I’d probably frick it up if I did it again.

I would do the year I graduated high school. Just a fun time to be alive. Sports and high school graduation. Fun summer and then a great freshman semester of college. The end of a high school error and the start of an unknown exciting future.

Two:

Age 12 in summer 1962, healthy, carefree, America was wondrous and I was just learning what my pecker could do for me.

June 24, 1969, Vietnam, I’d go back to about 12:15 a.m., just in time to save my best friend’s life. RIP Rod.

I would go back to Camp Lejeune circa 1981. I would scream out warnings about the chemicals in the water.
Then I wouldn't have lawyers calling me 10x every day now.

A Monday night in 1996/1997 to have one more WCW nitro/WWF watch party with all my old childhood buddies, lost a few since then.

No, weirdly for all shite I've been through along the way and after all the missed opportunities, my life is still better than it's ever been and improving.

Strange thought but true.

The early 80's. No internet, no social media, no cancel culture. Just a lot of drinking, smoking weed and chasing tail

Some time when I had two or three weeks off with no responsibility or anything to worry about.

I’d go back and tell college me to have a bigger time during those breaks, because they probably won’t come again, unless you retire early with plenty of cash.
