so sorry for wondering how the clerk at my local Speedway drops $150+ on dinner for his family of five once a week
My wife works with a single mom who is always broke, but she orders DoorDash twice a week from fricking places she could ride a bike to in 5 minutes.
She "borrowed" $50 from my wife for some school fee for her kid. I told her she'd never see that money again, and she never did, but now you know not to give her anything that you expect back.

Because froman hates Trump. He hates him so bad that it skews his thinking.

Poor people tend to do things that help keep them poor.

So turns out a several months in that tariffs are still a terrible idea.

You think inflation problem started with tariffs???
You must have been one of those people sharing the inflation graph while ignorantly not realizing that it showed how bad inflation was under Biden.
Tariffs have done nothing noticeable in my life outside of seeing trade deals that are going to be better for this country in the long run.

It is for nearly all areas of IT besides cybersecurity.
Our firm laid off a bunch of really good ppl. Average time for them to find jobs was 45ish days. Some took 4mos

You think the inflation we felt starting in 2021 was started by Biden?
Tariffs are just likely to exacerbate our inflation problems that were caused by Covid printing-spending of Trump and Biden, as well as low interest rates creating more consumer debt that inflated prices of all sorts of goods (like homes, autos, etc.), by making international trade more expensive.

We've been destroying our currency for 50+ years now. When government doesn't like the inflation numbers, they change the formula. Current 2025 inflation would be 8-10% using the formula of the 70s.

With low-tboy’s way of thinking, absolutely.

Consumer spending is being driven by debt and not buying assets.

Restaurant reservations in DC are down since Trump took action. Down 30%. But he claims the restaurants are overflowing. Hmmm.

quote:Yeah, Mingo missed my point, which wasn't to claim that my generation had it just as hard or say they'd have a house if they quit buying Starbuck's every morning and is actually in agreement with his point about disposable income.
My wife works with a single mom who is always broke, but she orders DoorDash twice a week from fricking places she could ride a bike to in 5 minutes.
My point was that what is considered disposable income in the first place seems to have shifted. That's just an observation on my part, not a condemnation of younger people. We grew up in an almost completely different world than them. If lots of them have given up on things like home ownership (rightly or wrongly) and choose to spend money differently than I would, I'm not in a position to judge, and I don't. But I can still observe.
