My point was that what is considered disposable income in the first place seems to have shifted.
I grew up in what was probably an upper-middle class family, but just slightly over the middle. We didn't eat out much at all. Nobody I knew really did. I guess the modern family is more of a product of 2 working parents and fewer people knowing how to cook.

I'll say this as a non Trump fan. Our economy would be a whole lot worse under Kamala Harris.
That's my opinion obviously but I think I'll be proven right.

Restaurant reservations in DC are down since Trump took action. Down 30%. But he claims the restaurants are overflowing. Hmmm.
You’re pretty far left, so I doubt your statistics. I do hope that it’s at least in part, if true, by some of the government cuts that you guys freaked out over.

I don’t know. I’m not struggling per se, but after my mortgage/insurance, living expenses and putting as much as I can into my 401k, I feel like I’m just existing. Good thing is I will pay my home off in 6 years or so. No Starbucks, etc for me, I make my own coffee at home and take lunch to work. I see $12.00 plus for fast food and say nope. When I get my home paid off, then I’ll consider a nice vacay.

You think the inflation we felt starting in 2021 was started by Biden?
You are right. We don’t know who was actually acting as President with Biden, but very bad inflation did occur under Biden’s presidency.
Also, where exactly did I even say who or what started the inflation. As you even quoted me as saying I said the inflation was bad under Biden, but you responded by straw manning what I said. Point that confused emoji at yourself for being such a fraud counselor.
My full quote.

You must have been one of those people sharing the inflation graph while ignorantly not realizing that it showed how bad inflation was under Biden.

I'm not a leftist or a Dem by any means, but also not a big Trump supporter. I do agree with him on some things, and getting rid of the 3rd world people who aren't here legally is one of them. If it makes some things more expensive so be it.

And Harris was gonna do nothing about it. Thus my opinion.

Eh, I don't deserve an upvote but what I said isn't a lie.

A lot of vehicles are cheaper today than they were 20 years ago, in real terms.

Illegal immigration has artificially suppressed wages for Americans. The "they do jobs Americans won't" crowd isn't accurate. There are plenty of people that would frame houses if it paid well.

My mom didn't work when I was a kid, and cooked most of our meals, she just wasn't very good at it
Sorry mom. Love you.

Definitely not trucks and popular SUVs. I paid $31,900 for my truck in 2017. I know because I just got my registration renewal. That truck is about 50k now.

I keep reading how bad the economy is and that people are struggling. I'm not seeing that anywhere. Even in broke arse central MS, every restaurant is full, stores are full, parking lots are full, houses, restaurants and retail spaces are being built like crazy. Not many foreclosed houses around me either. When I travel, I find the same, folks out spending money everywhere. The stock market remains strong.
Many restaurant prices have crazily increased (but you can still find reasonable prices), but I haven't noticed crazy prices at the grocery store.
When will see this in our everyday lives? Restaurants going under, people staying home and eating at home and not wasting money at Starbucks, 7 Brew, etc.?
The real problem isn't at the local level, it's the federal level. Here's a quick example:
For 2024, nominal GDP growth was $1.8T
For 2024, US federal deficit spending was $1.833T.
This means, essentially, that economic growth is solely dependent on the federal government continuing to create ever more debt. Of the five fiscal years since COVID (FY2020-FY2024), three have had deficits larger than GDP growth and one was nearly equal (2022 being the outlier, or, only "good" year). The last time it was anything like that was the Great Recession (and the years following, til about 2013).
What this all seems to indicate that the economy has become addicted to the federal debt continuing to grow at an astonishing rate. This sets up a scenario of being damned if you do and damned if you don't. If the federal government cuts deficit spending, the economy suffers. If the federal government continues high deficit spending, eventually the USD collapses under the weight of the debt.

I had a strong interest in it for as long as I remember, so, to her credit, she did spend lots of time on the weekends passing on her skills to me and my brother (my sister didn't care and still eats cereal for dinner at 38).

What is a lot? What percentage of each type? What trim levels?
