My next door neighbors were the Coonrods from Oklahoma. Whole family would hot tub together naked in their front yard.

Are they still there and what’s the address?

I love some people watching and that would be cheap entertainment in these tough times.

There is zero reason a first-time home buyer needs to have a mortgage this high. That's north of a $400k house.
Which puts it in the lower 50th percentile in terms of single family homes in America. Right at what a college graduate would expect to buy as a first home historically.

Brother, that is not at all hyperbole in the average debt to income ratio that was the norm 30 years ago.

$250k will get you about 1100 sq ft of almost unlivable house in Spokane Washington where the median household income is $65k and drug abuse is a HUGE problem

you’ll have to ask poster glassart.

I grew up near Livingston Parish, not in Livingston Parish

Goalposts moving. Downshiftandfloorit said there are no safe 1200sq/ft house neighborhoods anymore, which is absolutely untrue. Are they overpriced? Absolutely.

Also, why are you pigeon holing yourself into city proper?

This is the irrationality we’re talking about. Well done

I guess most people just make the assumption that normal people shouldn’t be forced to live in the ghetto

This is one of the dumbest arguments I’ve seen on this site, which is saying something. The level of cognitive dissonance is astounding

Can you define “tons” and “precious”?

I think you mean “few” and “good bones”

I absolutely did not say that.

There are not safe affordable 1200 sq ft homes in economically viable locations, within an hour's commute of good employment.

I said you can pick two of them. You are the one moving the goalpost.

More hyperbole.

I can find you a couple dozen nice starter homes in my hometown of Green Bay for less than $300k right now. Lots of my classmates still live there. It's a fine town to live in and raise a family.

You didn't?

In dads day they bought cigarettes and beer, and mom stayed at home with the kids in their nice 1,200 square foot house in a nice neighborhood where you didn't have to shoot your way in and out every day. Go find yourself one of those today.

You cant. They are all rentals and/or section 8 shitholes.

So you can get a starter home for 5x the MEDIAN household income. Not good!

For starter homes? As in, for people in their mid-20's just starting their careers? Absolutely yes.

Link 3 homes in Baton Rouge for $250k that aren’t built with particle board cabinets and/or aren’t in the ghetto

Requirement: must be within 15-20 minutes of downtown BR

Fortunately make much more than that, but i’m 60, most of my life I lived paycheck to paycheck, but was smart with money, didn’t borrow (except for a house), drove used cars with 300k+ on them, never ate out, paid cash for everything. No boats, 4wheeler, SXSs, etc. Still hunt with the Remington 742 I grew up hunting with. Basically in those days the wife and I were tight, now that we have money (after 30+ years of marriage and grown kids and fighting to the top of our career fields) we spend.

You think people today are too good to start where previous generations started? Most of us started in ghetto or trailer parks or run down apartments .
