There is zero reason a first-time home buyer needs to have a mortgage this high. That's north of a $400k house.

The average age of the first time homebuyer is 38 years old. We aren't talking about 25 year old single young adults. At 38, many of these first time homebuyers are married with children and need a 2000+ square foot home.

Not sure where you're at but in many places $400k will not get close to a decent family home in a good school district

What I mostly recall is that we were paying mfers to not work, so they sure as eff didn't.
You couldn't hire b/c they were sitting on their asses drawin' dey cks...

Boomers seem to get a lot of hate here because of SSI ( a program that only a tiny minority of boomers could possibly have even voted for), when in reality this country prints money like it's worthless.

And just to make sure I get plenty of downvotes; neither party has the intestinal fortitude to do a damn thing about it.

This country is hooked on the drug OPM

So you can get a starter home for 5x the MEDIAN household income. Not good!

Quit buying organic, 96% from the trendy market and you won't pay that much.

Funny you say that, because young people don't want oak or cypress cabinets. They just want white and don't particularly care what they're made of.

Given that the income information is off by about 20%, I’m not sure I trust your link.

And I was only responding to your anecdote so you posting a link that doesn’t even back up the data you presented is pretty cominal

But how many people who want to own a home are willing to truly struggle and budget hardcore to make that happen? Most arent willing to do that in my opinion. They would rather spend their money on other areas and then want to bitch and moan about not being able to afford a house as well.

You can’t expect the little darlings to actually sacrifice for the future.

Thankfully the next generation coming up seems to be vastly superior to them in every way.

Or, I don’t know, I don’t think one, much less two, college educated college educated workers with good jobs and 5 years worth of savings should have to do this to afford a home.

Just like you didn’t

Why do they "need" that? Since this thread is railing on the Boomers, I can assure you that most of them started off in homes smaller than that.

BR. Moving to either Livingston or Ascension parishes will provide a nice home well under that price and in a good school district. There are no "good" public school districts in BR.

Plenty of homes are affordable. And plenty of them aren’t.

That generation has a big problem distinguishing wants from needs. Seems like a simple concept to most, but they really struggle with it for some reason.
