Insane. I bought my ram 1500 in 2020 for 40k, it has 60k miles on it and the trade is worth 31k right now. That part sounds great except I'm shopping for a diesel 2500, and they are 70k.

The values and financial discipline drilled into me at an early age have served me well in my adult life. We'd have way fewer entitled brats bitching these days if they had learned them as well.

We’d have a lot fewer brats if they weren’t pay $200/month in car insurance for a 2015 accord with 120k miles on it or $350/month for a high deductible health care plan

This is the part in the conversation where we transition from "there are no affordable homes" to "there are no affordable homes in the places that are highest in demand with the best quality of life"

The goalposts always move that direction in these threads.

It's almost as if injecting all that Covid money (PPP, Stimulus cks, etc) was a really stupid idea.

if you recall, the bulk of covid relief for individuals went to people making under 100K/year. We took from the successful people and gave it to the losers.

This wasn't just a bad idea that caused inflation. This was the largest exercise of socialistic wealth redistribution in the history of the world....and it was done by a Republican president.

There’s no affordable homes in a city like Spokane where it’s not a legitimate concern that your neighbors home may explode or where you have to live next to someone leaning over in their front yard for 36 hours straight.

But you fricking retards will tell younger people “that builds character” despite never doing it yourself, nor should you have to

The bulk of actual dollars went to corporations. Big arse companies like Walmart and comcast were filing millions of dollars of refunds through the employee retention credit program

All of this. There are a bunch of delusional 30 year olds on here who think the Boomers spent like young people today. Laughable.

Also, it seems like too many have little problem solving skills. I think this goes back to their parents solving their problems for them.

correct, while Mom and Pop shops were forced to shut down for 9 months. And then have to apply for government assistance just to pay their lease and employees.

Lol, wealthy people didn’t fund the COVID relief. We printed the money, and everyone paid for it (and then some) in the form of inflation.

That’s what Gen X did. We bought $90k houses in neighborhoods that were neither convenient nor adjacent. My next door neighbors were the Coonrods from Oklahoma. Whole family would hot tub together naked in their front yard.

People making 100K paid for part of it. The rest was printed money that has caused obscene inflation.

Many states have similar programs, and I agree, costs are going up at most colleges.

If you owned a house, the rates dropping while the white collar market was largely unchanged was a pretty massive handout, caused a ton of the housing inflation and building materials supply chain issues

That's easy to say for someone whose primary asset appreciated 100% or more in the last 5 years.

Not even remotely close to 100% (more like 15%), but those are unrealized gains anyway until we sell our house. All that means in the short term for us is higher property taxes due to the new "assessment" and higher home insurance for the same reason.

Telling them to skip the coffee

The coffee is just an example of small spending that adds up to a sizeable sum over time. It's just rampant consumerism overall and an example of how making small changes in spending can significantly alter spending power.

There is zero reason a first-time home buyer needs to have a mortgage this high. That's north of a $400k house.
