You're not familiar with Spokane, WA or Fayetteville, AR? Maybe the problem is you.

That's an old menu. If you go to Starbucks.com, they don't even list prices. In fact, they don't even list the prices when you order in the app. You have to go to your cart to see how much it costs.
A Venti Salted Caramel Frappucino is $6.25 plus $0.66 tax, which comes out to $6.91. Basically $7.00.
A Venti Strawberry Refresher is $5.65. This is lemonade with a few strawberries in it. Add in the $0.59 in tax and you're at $6.24.
These items are ordered all day every day.

We’ve been building what sells, and what sells are homes that are often 50%-100% bigger than what boomers were buying 60-70 years ago. A smaller home is hard to find now. The inventory still mostly reflects what was built in the 1980s-2010s if you are in the south or the sunbelt.
The bigger, older cities still have some inventory that are smaller, but they are usually not affordable.

Well, you did not say Fayetteville but regardless, why should I be?
If they are that well known, there's no way that they are still safe and affordable and with decent employment opportunity.
There are exceptions to everything of course but in 2025, you have to pick two of the three.

I was lucky enough to not have to work more than part time in high school and college, my parents gave me My first vehicle and paid the gas and insurance, they helped me with college, etc, etc.
I’m not so fricking stupid and narcissistic to not realized that put me way ahead in the game. I still worked my arse and parlayed that opportunity to an even better chance to build wealth. There’s nothing wrong with that. I realize I had it A LOT easier than a lot of people and could focus my efforts onto thriving instead of surviving.

And yes, the menu i posted is from 2025 in Houston. It is hard to get menu's online because it varies from location to location

Spokane is a fricking shithole where you’re either military, on meth, or both

Clearly Starbucks is bankrupting the youth of our nation.
I could give my wife, the most stereotypical suburban housewife ever made, free reign to spend as much as she wanted at Starbucks for an entire year and I doubt it would exceed $3,000.
Its not the coffee. Its not the Netflix. Its not even the nice cars preventing young people from building wealth. Its outside forces beyond the control of the average person, and I dont understand why its so fricking hard for yall to admit that these young people are not being dealt a good hand.

400k house is affordable now
Shouldn’t be this way, but $250k-400k is kind of middle of the market for residential in my area. And COL here is considered very low.

Downtown and the old sections, yes, but the Valley, South Hill, CDA, Post Falls, 5 Mile and Liberty Lake are all very nice.

quote:Yep, coffee is a marginal expense. The last 5 years of inflation and specifically two major costs even far outpacing general inflation and wages (education and housing) are enormous impediments to wealth building for young adults. Really at this point unless you have help/inheritance or are an exceptionally high earner, it's almost impossible to save the same as your parents did on a relative basis.

Spokane is a shithole.
But it's home to the best boot makers in the world. White's, Nick's and JK. If youre in Spokane, it's worth checking them out and then hauling arse to CDA.

Vehicle price inflation is out of control. Bought my wife a brand new Eddie Bauer edition ford expedition in 2007 for $35k. Similar vehicle today is $80k

This is purely anecdotal but since I’ve joined the working world, I’ve noticed most married, gen x or older people have nicer, late model cars even if they’re not in a high earning position.
Like I said, purely anecdotal, but it seems to me like younger people are a lot more open to driving a shitty car, even if they can afford something much nicer.
