quote:Texans have the police called on them frequently for open carry. It's not the hot bed of liberty you think it is. It is not so "socially acceptable."
It’s Texas. What do you think?
God Bless Texas. My LTC = ability to Open Carry

Yeah if you look out of place no matter what you’re doing people will call the police. If you’re put together, being responsible, look like you’re supposed to be there 99/100 times people will just carry on with their day. If you’re doing it to get attention don’t get pissed when you get the attention

No. Good way to get robbed here.

I've only done it once when I was in AZ, but I felt kinda weird doing it. I was one of the few young white guys out there so they all assumed I was BP anyway

Yeah and honestly, if I saw people with a gun on their hip, as a kid, I never thought anything of it. And while it's not open carry, it was normal for people to have a shotgun in their gun rack in their truck.
But I had a few experiences when I was pre-teen and early teenage years and I am not a "fan" of guns. I mean, I expect that everyone would at least have one in their home for protection, but there are too many irresponsible people with guns.
When I was 11, the family who lived right next to us, who were close family friends, had a daughter shoot herself in the middle of the day, in front of her friend. Her dad had taken her to the shooting range every once in awhile, she knew how to handle it, etc. It was the Summer after she graduated HS and her parents were on vacation in Florida. I was outside with my dad.
We heard a noise, that sounded either like a gunshot or like someone slamming a car hood, which we thought it was since there were some people working on a car down the street. About 30 seconds later the neighbor girl's friend came running out hysterical. "She shot herself! She shot herself!"
Til this day, I don't think they still know the whole story. Evidently some boys were calling them and telling them they coming get them (like force them to go with them), and she went get the gun. Told her friend "watch I am going to shoot myself", pulled trigger.. Nothing.. Did it again.. BANG. She was sloped over the chair with blood flowing from her head.
Four years later, on July 4th, my other next door neighbor (on the other side).. We grew up together, he was 3 years older than I but we always played together, hungout. He became friends with this kid who was a jackass. One day, while at my neighbor's house, this kid went into my neighbor's parents room (they were not home), got the dad's gun and came up front and was pointing it at people. I left right away. He was all "whats wrong? you scared?" and while on my way home, he pulls the gun out and points it at me and says "come back right now". I was closer to my house than to him. He said it in a sort of joking tone, but weeks later, my neighbor was at that kid's house, laying across the dude's bed reading a magazine.
The kid pulls out his gun out his closet, points it at my friend and he told him to chill with that shite. The kid told him "don't worry, it's not even loaded". He cocks it, pulls trigger.. If my friend wouldn't have had his head resting on his arm, to where his arm was in front of his face, he would have died. It was buck shot and close range. My neighbor was in the hospital for several months, had to relearn how to use the hand that got shot.
Last year, during hunting season, my former boss from years ago.. Who I still keep in touch with. His sister's grandson lived with her. He was cleaning his gun in the kitchen. She was in her chair holding her dog. The gun accidentally went off, killing her and then hitting the dog. There are other situations I know of in which people were shot accidently.. So while I am cool with people having a gun on them as long as they are not walking around holding it, but I do not think everyone should have a gun.
There needs to be a better way for people to earn the right to have and carry a gun because if everyone would open carry, there are quite a few people I would not want to be around if they did have a gun on them.

It's not a good look IMO. Cc only.

Holy wall of text OweO. Gun accidents happen and stupid people have access to them.
Maybe it was the way I was raised or that something has changed in society. My dad had guns laying all over the house when we were kids. I knew how to use them but we were scared shitless to touch them when he wasn't around. That meant your arse

What in the frick. It is situations like this where I just shake my head.
How do you clean a gun with out checking the chamber or for a magazine first.
Blows my mind.

Open carry has been restriced in city limits since we have been a country. Wanted to get this out there before the 2A guys start popping off.

Yeah, firearms are just a part of life. Even most left leaning people casually carry firearms on occasion.
Yeah, Alaska where an actual bear may wander out and decide you are worth mauling. I'd carry too. Anywhere that rural or wilderness.
But as mentioned about the dude in the OP. 2 Glocks butt forward? C'mon now.

Agreed. It is hard to have a real conversation when you have the left using false narratives or just plain ignorance. You can't get a firearm owner to have a conversation with you that way.

I always LOL at the open carry idiots, esp the dudes rolling around with AR-15's in public.
no one needs to know what i have on my person

I was in Amarillo last week, and it seemed as if everyone had a 38 special in a holster on their belt....right next to their PrimeCo phone clip.

Assuming it's legal where you live? Here in North Dakota, it is out west. I saw a cowboy carrying 2 Glocks, butt forward, at Walmart. Everywhere else in the State, you'd get dirty looks and perhaps a call to the cops.
Open carry is pretty much exclusive to wanna-be's and guys who are trying to compensate for some type of shortcoming.

You see it from time to time. Not that big of a deal, but it strikes me as a cry for attention and most of the guys doing it are either little dudes or massively overweight older white guys. Plus, if you do run into some bad hombre it makes you more likely to be the first target.

I open carry every day.

I see open carry a decent bit in Georiga. I prefer to cc but will open carry every once in a while.
There are tons of peeps packing concealed here...
I see it at just about every event i go to...handful of sheepdogs looking outward from crowds with arms crossed

It's not in other parts of the country...it's just a way of life...

These are the types I see once in a while, and frankly I they always concern me. Just seem like the type to overreact and have an accident or something.
