Not in Illinois no, not legal.
I've open carried many times in my vehicle in states that allow such.

I prefer CC unless I'm hunting or fishing. CC, I can choose if I bow out of a situation much easier.

Open carry is pretty much exclusive to wanna-be's and guys who are trying to compensate for some type of shortcoming.
Nah. It's pretty common in some places and done by lots of different types of people.

I see people open carry from time to time and it does not seem to bother anyone but one time I went to a restaurant and I saw some PW trash inside eating with his equally nasty family and I walked out because he looked like a psycho. I opted to go elsewhere.
I had a buddy of mine (use term loosely) that open carries and likes to wear generic swat looking stuff so he can get the free coffee and donuts because businesses think he is law enforcement...

Maybe it was the way I was raised or that something has changed in society. My dad had guns laying all over the house when we were kids. I knew how to use them but we were scared shitless to touch them when he wasn't around. That meant your arse
Like I said, I always assumed everyone had a gun. That's just part of growing up in South Louisiana. People hunt and well.. If someone tries to break in your house.. a gun is much better than... a knife. My dad had a few guns, my mom has a gun.. And I guess, without even thinking about it, I sort of assume most people in South La has a gun in their house (well there are a few people I know, whose wife tells them what to do and probably doesn't allow them to have a gun), but not everyone is taught to respect a gun and how to properly use it.
My dad use to say all the time "always assume a gun is loaded. Even if you think you know for sure it isn't, assume it is". You have to respect the capability of it and the fact that one small mistake with a gun is enough to take someone's life. But there are a lot of people who have never been taught to respect a gun or have been made aware of the things a lot of people assume most people know.
There are common sense safety rules that you think most people would know.. Because.. well it's common sense, but I am just saying people should have to go through some type of safety classes, pass a test.. Sort of like getting a drivers license, before getting a gun. Just because I never underestimate the stupidity of people, in general.

In Scottsdale it’s 100% acceptable and always has been, it’s just something people do.

I've only done it once when I was in AZ, but I felt kinda weird doing it. I was one of the few young white guys out there so they all assumed I was BP anyway
Where the hell were you, in Nogales or some other shithole border town?

It's almost like putting your wallet in your back pocket in AZ. It's nothing to see a dozen people carrying in the grocery store. Definitely the only place I've been where it's completely normal.

Close to the NM border. I used to get bored and drive the border. No wall out there in no man's land.

Ya growing up here gave me a different perspective than most when it comes to guns. Everyone carried and there was never any gun crime or gun deaths so it took awhile for me to understand why people make such a big deal about them.

Smart idea to open carry around the border, it’s a shithole and is essentially Mexico. Personal I concealed carry because it’s easier but open carry is the better deterrent.

I was always strapped when I went out there. I'd even have my AR riding shotgun. It's kind of an odd feeling knowing that the cartel is probably watching you.

Personally should I ever decide to start carrying a gun it will be open. It will be big caliber.
I don't buy this speculation that you are the first target if shooting breaks out if you open carry.
I think thugs are basically cowards and would tend to avoid an armed person.
That said if anywhere I live becomes so bad that I feel the need to carry I will be looking to move. Who wants to live somewhere like that?
I carried a pistol a time or two after Katrina and kept it in my truck. Every once in a while if I have to go out to my office late at night I will stick it in the truck.
There is no doubt you are more prone to injury from a gun if you carry one than if you don't.

People who open carry just want to be first one shot.
Cause if I was a bad guy and saw someone open carrying in a place I was about to rob, that guy gets the first shot.

You wouldn't just rob some place else??

Open carry has been restriced in city limits since we have been a country. Wanted to get this out there before the 2A guys start popping off.
In very few city limits and concealed carry was seen as dishonest. Maybe you should do some research on the history of concealed carry and LTC laws before a 2A guy schools you out of this thread.

I would MUCH rather anyone carrying a gun carried it open so I could see they have a gun.
Why hide it?

And not one shred of credible research supports this assertion. Research does suggest that armed self-defence produces lower rates of injurious outcomes compared to other strategies.

Open carry? I can't even plink rodents in my backyard out here in CA without having a discussion with the cops.

A few years ago.. I forget the name of the restaurant.. It's a cafe in Addis, La. It was one time when people thought their guns were going to be taken away so they decided to offer discounts, at lunch, for everyone who exercised their 2nd amendment right.. So there were a lot of people going in for lunch carrying.. And someone's gun accidentally went off, it didn't hit anyone, but one day they were all "everybody carry your guns, its Merica" to.. Not allowing anyone carrying, to dine there.
