I think you are confusing the brands.

The QX products are Nissan/Infiniti. All of the QX vehicles are worst in class by a mile, with cheesy interiors and ratty powertrains.

The LX is a Lexus product. It’s actually good, although aging and in need of a refresh.

Infiniti is more of a Buick, Chrysler or Acura competitor than a Lexus competitor. It’s not really a higher end brand anymore. Nissan should just make it a trim package instead of a brand.

Infiniti M37

The M37S was an amazing luxury sport sedan, and had the same V-6 as the 370Z.

In the truck space, to me Nissan really screwed the pooch when the Pathfinder moved away from a body-on-frame SUV and adopted the unibody "mom-van" design with that CVT that no one wants.

Well the qx is by far the best large suv I’ve ever owned. It has power for days, and it’s interior is dated, but everything functions properly. The same cannot be said for the European cars I’ve owned. Not to mention that the qx is based off of one of the most reliable cars ever. The y62 patrol.

Infiniti's lineup is almost all very old designs that don't excite anyone. They offer almost nothing that stands out among its competitive set. The only selling point they have is that their products are cheaper than Lexus, BMW, Cadillac, and even Volvo.

The American brand sedans were also cheaper than Honda or Toyota. Didn't keep them from essentially ceding the market to them.

Above average.

Infiniti’s problem doesn’t lie in the vehicles they’ve sold already. They can’t attract new buyers to their product bc their product is inferior, so they offer big discounts and attractive lease deals instead. They haven’t been competitive since maybe 2010 or so. The original G35/37 was far and away the best car they ever made.

If you’re bored, go watch Doug Demuro’s video on Infiniti. It’s pretty interesting.

They should pull the plug on the cvt transmission.

Yep.

My wife's QX60 has one. Had the shudder but got the fix and it's been fine. Just don't like the non-shift and somewhat lazy low end acceleration.

My Q50 has a regular transmission (7 speed) that is almost as smooth as the CVT (you can barely feel the shifts unless you are laying on the throttle).

As for the more general point, I hope to Hell NOT they pull the brand. Damned fine vehicles that have held up well and are far less expensive to maintain than European brands and as (if not more) reliable as the Japanese badges.

Yeah, the brand is boring. But I am being completely honest when I say the qx is the best large suv I’ve ever owned.

when they hired the brand manager from Audi and started calling everything "q" they confused the consumer. They did this to themselves.

Don’t doubt that at all. The QX had issues when it launched but I think they sorted it. It’s essentially a Pathfinder Armada which is a tank. That 5.7 V8 has been around almost unchanged since 2004.

Used to own a 2007 G35 standard. Was a very fun car to drive.

Then I got a new Audi and it made the Infiniti feel like something from the Stone Age.

Agree that Infiniti has gone way down hill over the last decade.

I love my Q50, but when I bought it, I almost got a Maxima. There really is not much of a difference though. It's just a slightly better Altima with a 3.0 twin turbo engine. Got it a year old for 23K. 36K for a brand new one, no thank you. Never buy a Nissan or Infiniti brand new.

I don't have the S, but that looks like the 2012? Mine's 2011. 330 HP and great torque.

Compared to whom? I can't imagine that the Euros have passed them on reliability.

I hear this often from Euro car snobs like it’s a bad thing. I drive Toyota & Lexus cause they make the most reliable vehicles on the planet, coupled w/ outstanding resale....unlike LR/Jag, BMW & Merc that takes a massive depreciation hit & have VERY inconsistent reliability.

I have owned six Altimas dating back to 95. All have been very reliable and zero transmission issues other than a loose ground wire which was fixed under warranty.the first four were very high mileage with well over 200,000 miles.

I was currently driving a 2016 and my wife was driving my old 2012. Saturday I purchased a 2020 Silverado (that I can't see or respond to texts but that is a story for another day). I traded in my wife's 2012 and drove it to the dealership.

After not driving the 2012 for years, it was obvious that the quality drop from 2012 to 2016 was huge. Even though it has twice the mileage as my 2016, it drove better, was quieter and just felt way more solid.

Not sure if every other manufacture is doing the same but the quality is certainly tanking.

This!!!
I’ve owned Infiniti vehicles in the past, and currently drive a Q70 sedan that I’ve had for over 4 years. Zero problems and rock solid car with plenty of room. I still get compliments on the appearance of my ride and it’s a 2015. If I had it to do over again I would buy this sedan today.

Infiniti only makes a sale because they are cheaper than the competition. No one buys an infiniti because it beats the competition.

My wife had one when we first met and I wasnt impressed. Nice interior but it broke down a lot and replacement parts were either expensive or hard to come by.
