Many on the OT seem to think it's like walking around Mogadishu

More like Port-au-Prince.

If you watch the news- New Orleans is currently broken. All our residents are cryingon the streets begging for the honey badger to save us.

If you read the OT- New Orleans is fallujah and you better be prepared to fight a war and burn the city down.

I left a few months ago but I never felt this when I lived there. It's got a shite ton of problems but it's not difficult to avoid crime.

We left Lakeview mid year 2015 and moved across the lake. The high taxes and lack of basic roads plus the combination of worrying about the wife and kids getting jacked in the driveway did it for us.

Now I just commute the causeway and my peace of mind is much better having the fam in St. Tammany.

We went to dinner Friday night in the quarter and I did find myself observing my surroundings more than I used to, or at least I that I actually realized I was doing. That was kind of weird that I caught myself doing that.

I just find that as I get older I'm not big on putting myself out in places where there are too many people with nothing to lose- a wrong look, an accidental bump, its just not worth getting involved with anymore.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. Shoot my neighbors now are from Algiers and Uptown. They all just got out feeling the same way.

Sad really.

Most of the bullshite like that comes from northerners who moved down here from their segregated all white neighborhoods in the north United States and they suddenly have black people and lower class people and crimes and they don't understand how to handle it.

Sounds enticing.

Or is it just overreaction brought on by news like the Will Smith shooting?

Is the city that bad, I dont know, I tend to stay in the pricey areas of town. Does some crime wander over every now and then, yes, but I feel it can be avoided in most cases. As far as overreaction brought on by the news, no, people reacting to the murder of another human is not an overreaction.

Why compare Nola to br or Laffy? It's apples and oranges. One is a destination tourist city famous worldwide the others are smaller cities in a subpar state.

it is going to shite. There are some good things happening but its hard to over shadow the violence and education problems.
