You mean when violent crime was worse?

I did it somewhat back then as well.
When living in nola I was robbed at gunpoint twice, walked in my backporch and saw two guys just getting the backdoor off the hinges and had an intruder kick my door in minutes after I left, but while my roommate was still there.
One thing I saw was a car drop off a guy who preceded to walk about two blocks before the same car came back and picked him up. Saw the same car several blocks away and about a half hour later still driving around.
Look, I'm not one to shite on NOLA for no reason. I think the food is not overrated and obviously I still go down for fun frequently, but there is no point in giving me the third degree as if I'm just a paranoid red neck making shite up. If you have difficulty admitting that it's got some major problems and is not unreasonable for others to be put off by it, you're blind.

Denying what? Only a moron would cheer for New Orleans to further deteriorate. Crime, poverty, bad schools, etc. being improved upon or reduced would mean businesses would feel comfortable investing which = good citizens moving to the city which = better New Orleans.

Talked to a couple who spent four days last week. Said they feared being violent crime victims. Sad.

You don't advocate for any of that. You come in these threads and bash. Maybe that's just your idea of helping.

Sean Payton is obviously just a mean redneck who eats Bubba Gump and Hard Rock Cafe

It would be more sad if they actually were violent crime victims.

I spend my money in New Orleans all the time, I'm there a good bit every month eating out and drinking local beer. I wouldn't mind living in the city for a few years, but there's not a chance in hell I'd raise a family there.

Tell them to stay in their hotel then. The same could be said of any city in the entire US.

So helpful.

It was much worse in the 90's. The difference is that now when anything happens everyone is aware of it via social media etc. With that said, NOLA has serious serious problems. The only hope is continued gentrification. Push all the dipsh*ts to the NOLA East.

Only if the city could find a way to get good people to move there. I feel that is what's holding it back too.

Well I'm walking from Poydras to LaBoca, if I survive the journey gonna have a couple of scotches then a bone in filet and a bottle of french red wine. Hope I make it.

New Orleans is a great food city with plenty of entertainment. No one denies that.
The state needs New Orleans to be so much more than that. It should be a viable economic rival to Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, etc. It's not, and it hasn't been for a couple of decades.
If New Orleans attracted the number of LSU grads that Houston or Atlanta does, everything from the crime issues to the housing bubble to the sluggish wage growth would solve itself. It's barely competing with Baton Rouge or Lafayette in that respect. Unfortunately the tourism and service jobs are not an adequate replacement for the big corporate offices that the city lost over the years to Texas.
