It’s more rural for sure. The people are very nice. If you want to live in the country it’s pretty nice.

The coast absolutely. 10 miles or more north absolutely not.

I really like the north parts of Mississippi (Oxford, Tupelo, Olive Branch) and the coast in some parts, like Ocean Springs.

I think the people as a whole are extraordinarily kind, and overwhelmingly more open-minded than their neighbors to the South.

Given a choice, Mississippi is a way better place to live. It’s honestly a better place to live than most places in Alabama, sans a few spots like Fairhope, Huntsville, and Mountain Brook.

Tupelo would have to be in there somewhere. Tupelo has the Toyota plant, a shite load of furniture manufacturing and the largest non-metropolitan hospital in America. The Tupelo High School campus is nicer than most of the small colleges in the state. A 10,000 seat arena with some kind of concert or event on the reg.

Grew up in LA, currently in MS. A year ago I would’ve told you LA, after watching JBE from afar, the gap has closed.

After moving here I realized how many resources LA has that could really help the state improve (Port of Orleans, LSU/football, Saints/Pelicans/NOLA tourism, fish/wildlife, the gambling draw in Shreveport/LC, oil&gas) and just how amazing it is the corrupt politicians have pissed all that away.

The coast in MS has some things going on, but other than that, there just isn’t shite in this state...Jackson and Meridian, two of the biggest cities here, are completely depressing places to visit.

I’m admittedly a big city guy though, I miss Houston (where we were before this).

I have lived most of my life between the states of Louisiana and Mississippi and have to say it is a tossup. Louisiana is more interesting from a cultural standpoint while Mississippi has a lot nicer gulf coast region. food is the same outside of New Orleans area, as the Mississippi gulf coast has a heavy Cajun influence. Both states are similar in population and demographics. Mississippi has rolling hills, which are nice, but doesn’t have any marsh, which I like.

I never aspired to move to Mississippi, but Madison is the nicest place I have lived.

Don't MS residents have to pay a lot for annual car tags? Like 700-1000+ depending upon your vehicle?
I pay $30-ish a year but I have an older car. Also, we don't have to pay for an inspection sticker anymore.

I'm from LA but moved to MS for a while. When I returned, I remember that New Orleans in particular seemed really pretentious.

I wish I would have discovered the Delta when I was young. I would love to live there.

Clash of the Cripples

There’s a few nice places in each State, the bottom line is they are two States who get way more from the Federal Government than they give.

That’s a litmus test for having a bunch of deplorables.

Go to a Utah, go to many different towns & cities there, and then you’ll be impressed.

If you go to more than the best 5 or 10 places in Louisiana or Mississippi you’ll see why these States are both in the bottom 10th.

There is something you don’t often hear!

I grew up in an agricultural area,so I like it too....people generally look at me like I am crazy when I tell them that!

Take out Jackson metro and 3-4 of the delta counties and MS is a middle of the pack state. Not the doormat that all the metrics suggest.

Well, if you take away the worst 1/3 of most states they would be top of the pack states. Take away my gut, low bank account and bad personality, I’d be potential marriage material.
