I watched a few episodes on a plane recently and it was kind of fun but yeah it’s obviously mostly fake.

Didn’t they do big Mike’s in denham after the flood. Haven’t been since before the flood in ‘16.

It’s a TV show about bars. Everything doesn’t have to be Frasier. It’s a fun show to watch and laugh at.

rubes are still into "reality TV, but its just a cheap scripted alternative.
In the entertainment industry, these types of shows are called "scripted reality" shows. Meaning they are scripted to appear to be reality. Nothing on them is real. Bar Rescue signs a contract with the place. The business gets the publicity and they get to keep the equipment that is installed. The producers have deals cut with the equipment companies to get the stuff for free in return for saying the brands name on air. The bar owner has to keep the Taffer "theme" for a set amount of time and can then revert back to their original name and decor if they want. Bar owner gets publicity and the equipment. Taffer gets an episode. TV channel sells ads. Public gets something to watch.

Grain of salt and all that stuff, but met a local bar manager a few months ago who claimed he used to work for him back in the day and said that the antics and even the "accent" are all for show.

This begs the question, outside of signing up for a reality tv show, are there people a struggling restaurant owner can get to help them turn things around?
While some of them probably really do need some help and guidance for turning things around due to getting in over their head (like when he helps a local VA) I think a lot of the people who go on that show just want a free remodel so it's easier to sell their business or are simply looking for free promotion of their place.

The show is a fraud
If a bar or restaurant is failing, it’s the owners fault, and it’s rare you can get them out of it unless you teach them properly about Labor, Profit/Loss, overhead etc
Even a crappy place but with excellent service and loyalty, can survive if it runs itself well
Taffer simply goes in and fixes the restaurant, not the owners

The Chalmette episode was Desi Romano”s Sports Bar. They are still up and running.

Turtle Bay on bourbon episode was just on. Dude tried to turn it into a gourmet restaurant on the side. I’m not ordering fricking gumbo at a bar on bourbon street. Not ever.

Yeah it looks like nothing is going on there when I’m at Bruno’s. It’s been a while though since I’ve been over there though

Mostly theatrics. Otherwise it'll mimic a home improvement show. I suppose he'd lose it with bar owners who don't have a clue about running that type of business.

I was a PA on a reality show once. Yes, they are mostly bullshite. But it's not all necessarily scripted, alot of the "drama" or perceived "scripting" is done in post production. They'll take a semi-contentious moment that happened in reality and stitch it up like it was some kind of huge blowout. When you have 5 cameras and 20 mic'd people for 3 days straight, that's 360 hours of footage and even more audio, that you can mix down into a 45 minute show to make the story into anything you want at that point.
I liked Bar Rescue for the first couple of seasons before it all became so formulaic that I couldn't tell if I was watching a new one or if I had already seen it.

Anybody know of one single long term success story of his? Feel like this is all just staged for TV.
There's a place in Katy TX called The Wildcatter Saloon that is still operating after several years w/ the name and decor he gave them.
