re: Is it weird that a 50k GMC truck’s big selling point is a tailgate that has a step on it?

The ideal customer they are going after with a truck like that isn't the smartest. A little emotional tug with something as meaningless as that will have Frank ready to sign up for that loan with the quickness.

Also amazing the people that buy trucks these days that will go months without using the bed.
Or 4x4 truck and never go offroad.

Do people really buy trucks based on interior?
Serious question.
I’ve never really given the interior any thought.
I like a nice interior but I don't need nor want a 15" LCD screen in the damn dash.
These things are getting so over the top with the electronics they won't be worth any more than they weigh in 10 years as none of that shite will work.

Well yeah, Ram is crushing them
I own a 2019 RAM. I looked at the GMC --- I actually think it is a great looking truck on the outside. But on the inside, it felt like I was taking a step back in time.
If the price would have reflected that step back in time, by being significantly less than the RAM, I would have considered it. But it wasn't. In fact, it was more.

I argue that Americans are returning to the vehicles they really want after years of dalliances with Japanese (and to a lesser degree European) sedans.
Large, RWD vehicles with big engines. Trucks and many SUV’s are today’s land yachts from the 1950’s and 60’s.

It also doesn’t hurt that Americans are older and fatter and have a harder time getting in and out of cars.

Hmm speak for yourself I guess.
Whatever the truck comes with is fine for me. It ain’t like they’re upholstering the seats with sand paper.

I've almost always had a truck. It's just convenient to have a bed at my disposal when needed. We have a small family and don't need a suv that seats 7.

I have a 4x4 and don't go offroading. I do live where we can have some pretty bad winters, so it's nice to have if I need it.

It is a GM, there aint much there to talk about. I bought one. It has 22k on it and is a joke, it has more creaks and clanks than you can imagine, Just today the little overhead console part just came loose and rattling like a mother.
They better focus on the tailgate.

That tailgate is pretty cool.It allows an easy step up into the bed and a seat and cup holders for tail gating.
Also 110 outlets for tvs and such.
Has an inverter I reckon.
Expensive to replace, but cool if I had one.

I heard you can't use the step with a trailer hitch in place.

My F150 has two 110 outlets.

I was looking at some 250's as well, I just don't have to pretend that I have a big dick

Everyone knows you don’t?
Sounds like there’s a story here.

I call that tailgate a “sissy step.”
Should I call it something more culturally appropriate or is this term fine?

Speaking of trucks...if you had to choose between a Ram, F150, Tundra or Silverado which would you pick?
It would be everyday use truck with a lot of mileage piling up on it. A nice interior would be preferable despite earlier comments due to the amount of drive time.

The price of trucks is just absurd these days - all you suburban boys that wanna feel manly in a truck but only really haul groceries need to go buy SUV's. Take all that electronic shite out of them and lets get those prices back down. WTF do you turds need heated seats for in Louisiana?
