re: Is it weird that a 50k GMC truck’s big selling point is a tailgate that has a step on it?

I'm so glad mine has the 6 speed. It appears the changes they made to the 5.0 with this last "update" and the 10 speed transmission, they have created a lot of issues for themselves. I wouldn't buy a F150 right now till those items are fixed.
I think it's the same 10 speed GM uses. I believe they developed it together with Ford.

Yes, I believe that is true.

a relative of had one as a rental and the fancy tailgate hit the trailer hitch when opened up as a step. Guess they didn't consider that?

i bought a new truck after having the same one for 17 years. i had a couple new family vehicles but this was "my" first one. I'm at the point in life where the interior, the ride, and safety is the most important part. Not the looks on the outside.
There are deals out there. 14k-15k off sticker and more. All brands had things I liked and things I didn't. I pull boats, use the bed, take it to the lease and tote my family around. Does everything I need it to. Cooled seats was my #1 requirement. Others things I could have done without but for cooled seats i had to get that trim level.

I don’t know if they will grow on me but the new 2500 heavy duty chevys and GMC are terrible looking

These domestic brands do the most gimmicky trashy tackiest shite to lure in buyers. From dumb folding tailgates to lime green colors (I know from a mile away that its a Dodge Challenger). Suckers still fall for it.

I use the step on my f-150 a good bit.

True, but the markup so they can discount $15K is working, people think they are getting a super terrific deal instead of just paying what the manufacturer is trying to make for them. WC Fields and all....

Mexicans love to steal tailgates in Texas.

I think it’s weird that pickup trucks cost $50 period.

I'll stick to the standard tailgate. Don't need a pandora's box.
How many recalls with they have for this?

I just chose the Tundra last month. The thing that put it over the top was the Tundra still has the same 6 speed trans and V-8 that it's had for years. The Mrs has a SUV w/ a 9 speed and I hate it. I didn't want that in a truck. Gas mileage doesn't matter to me.
I just got rid of an 08 Denali, that I put 190K on, but the dash looked like a estranged girlfriend went to town on it with a framing hammer. Also, I refuse to give another dime to GM or Dodge for screwing the taxpayer.
Anecdotally, I know a bunch of folks with Rams, lots of shop time for some pretty annoying stuff.

While i agree with everything else you said and i love my ecodiesel.
this:
is just wrong.
Technically Ram isn't owned by Dodge anymore, Ram is its own division/brand. But it's parent company is Chrysler which in turn is owned by Fiat.
People who still shite on Ram's are still clinging to the 80's and 90's reputation. They have since been owned by 3 different companies and have completely changed their quality.
While Toyota is still living off their earlier reputation. The Tundra is over priced, poor quality vehicle. The engine is decent, but everything else is lagging way behind.

We have had a toyota in out family every year since 1990 with no troubles. I have owned 3 tahoes and an F-150 that have spent considerable amounts of time in the shop. My next vehicle will be a toyota.
