most parents (at least good ones) 100% believe this (I know I do), and so when friends tell them that they do not want to experience this, its a natural reaction to ask "but why?"
kinda like you go on an amazing vacation or an awesome restaurant and tell your friends about it, and they say "nah, not for me, sounds awful", its human nature to defend or push them to go
I think you are assuming good intentions where they aren't always present.
A lot of the time, people come across with a note of bitterness or desperation that is more in line with the comments I get from my friends that have never lived anywhere other than our hometown when discussing that my wife and I moved away as soon as we were able and never moved back.
(It should be noted my wife and I have two kids, but I have been witness to the type of conversations from the OP to our friends that do not have or plan to have kids).

I want kids, I just don't want the inconvenience of having to take care of them. Not to mention the financial burden.
Dont get me wrong. Doodling in Excel and pushing that budget out for 15 years and seeing 4 kids cost you about $1.2 million is a motherfricker.

Is that what you took from my opening post? Did you even read it?

No. That would be 42.

It is very rude to give unsolicited advice to friends on such personal decisions.
Next time it happens, just say, "Oh. Thanks. Well, it's a personal decision. I'll ask you if I need any more advice about it."
Then change the subject.

Great. I have two kids and don't really care if people choose not to have kids. It's better that way then having a kid you don't want.

People need to mind their own business.

I'd trade a few tangible assets to see your son get laid out from his blind side. Or your daughter get bukakked.

I understand your point and did not require the extensive post. My point is that a good friend should try to convince you to do something as harmless as read a good book. Because hey, reading a good book never hurt anyone. It also doesn't take a lifetime to read that book. It's reasonable. It's not so reasonable to try to convince someone to have a child, considering the implications.
I see what you are saying, but don't think that the implications of having a child should preclude a discussion / conversation with a good friend if you think that they may enjoy children. I am a stubborn person and have disregarding many things off-hand only to give it another, more fair shot once a friend has recommended. The implications are far greater, but so is the potential reward of having a child vs. reading a book and obviously more serious issues would warrant a lengthier / more in depth discussion.
Also I think "convince" may be the wrong term for what I am talking about, more along the lines of lay out the rewards vs. the obvious commitment and let the person / people decide for themselves.
Going back to the OP, I think sometimes people get a little caught up a lot and go to try and convince people to try something (speaking in general terms regarding books, movies, sports, having kids, religion, politics, anything really) rather than just discussing the topic and outlining positives and negatives and let them decide for themselves.
All of the above are the same in my mind, the level of the implications simply governs the length and seriousness of the discussion involved with the topic.

It's not a pretty thing to say, but it's the truth. It took me a long time to get here. For obvious reasons, I keep such views to myself and tiger droppings .
Yep.
It's one reason why I look down on the child free lifestyle. It goes against every biological instinct and incentive we have as part of the animal kingdom to reproduce to advance the herd and preserve our society. It's completely unnatural.
When you really think about it, The Child free lifestyle is what basically sums up the western 1st world in a nutshell. We have advanced so much that such a thing is possible and not just tolerated but faces no legal repercussions for it.

I can assure you that isn't the case. If I wanted children I wouldn't marry someone who doesn't want children. I know that sounds crazy...
It doesn't sound crazy at all. It just sounds predictable. We have all had friends like you and we already know how this movie ends. You either have a baby or you split up (exception if unable to conceive or you adopt). Because we have all had friends who gave us this same self-congratulatory lecture right up until the moment they suddenly became The Greatest Dad Ever. Or the girl who "didn't want kids" leaves you and five years later she has two at home and a bun in the oven. We've seen this again and again. We know the script. See you here in ten years and you either have kids or you two aren't a couple. Guaranteed.

Well done, Pecker. Don't reproduce.
