Any legal document usually require a print and a script signature for your name

We do a lot of things that aren't necessary. Good penmanship is one of them.

In LA pretty much anything can count as a signature.

I stopped cursive during my freshman year in high school. English teacher was having none of it. I got points taken off for having the correct answer but not writing it in cursive. My mom got involved and basically the principal said that if any student didn't want to write in cursive, they didn't have to.

No wonder that teacher hated me all through high school.

The realization that cursive is a waste of time.

Cursive is a tool that was invented to overcome the limitations of another tool (the quill). We don't use that old tool anymore, so we don't need cursive anymore.

The same could be said about most of what is taught.
People leave high school as brain dead sheep.

I started writing in cursive when I was in 2nd grade. That's all I write in.

I plan to teach my 6 yr old cursive.

I learned cursive in school. My first semester at LSU (1981) I took drafting and learned lettering. I never used cursive again but to sign my name.

Just switched schools with my kids. Old school wasn't teaching it, but new school is. I was happy to see it. I don't know why, but good penmanship gave me a little more respect for a person. That's coming from someone who has some of the worst handwriting you'll see. I tend to write in a hybrid cursive/script type handwriting. I have noticed most of my employees that are 30 or younger tend to have worse handwriting than some of my older employees.

You know how to kill a Millennial? Put them in a cabin in the the middle of nowhere, with a rotary phone, a paper map, a manual transmission car and instructions to use all of them in cursive.

I too took drafting and lettering was very precise. Especially if it’s by hand.they may only teach that at the beginning these days. I write faster and it’s more fluid to write in cursive. As one poster said it’s more of a print to cursive hybrid. Only I can read it. Not really. People say my writing is very legible most times.

They also don't teach using an abacus or a typewriter.

Crazy!

I would argue with you but you do prove that point pretty well.

I know people don't write as many checks anymore but I still write out the money part in cursive like one-hundred fifty is written in cursive. I was taught that part must be in cursive, but I guess it doesn't on a hand written check.

I haven’t used cursive since 8th grade and that was like 1998. I have no problem if my kid’s school uses the time to teach something more relevant.
