Is cursive necessary really? Like I’m not saying it’s not, but I personally can’t think of a reason so I’m welcome to correction

Lots of legal records written in cursive, everything from land records to court rulings to the declaration of independence.

In my experience, those that can't write it have a hard time reading it.

What are taxes and how do I pay those?

Never understood this "why don't they teach how to do taxes in school" like 95% of everyone can't sit down with the free version of turbo tax and their w-2 and be done with it in fifteen minutes.

What really needs to be taught is how tax brackets work, because there are still way too many adults who think you pay a higher flat rate of taxes from earning more income.

Cursive was one of the most pointless things learned in school. It has served me absolutely no use other than being able to take notes faster

I write on note pads all the time.

Estimate notes when I’m at a customer’s house.

Invoices for customers if it’s a small job.

Not that I don’t do things on the computer but it’s 50/50.

Why the hell would someone need to learn cursive in 2021?

There’s a lot wrong with our education system these days, but this isn’t one of them.

Only reason is so you don't look retarded when your signature is print letters that are holding hands.

I wrote a note to someone in cursive ... I was told by someone else that they had to read it to her. I still write in cursive .. printing takes me longer.

It's also been proven that reading aloud to yourself while typing notes is JUST as effective.

Aside from a signature when is anyone currently in school ever going to need cursive at any point in their life?

I use cursive to take notes in meetings.

My handwriting has morphed into some kind of half-cursive / half-print hybrid. In other words, it sucks.

Many kids these days can sign their names in cursive, and that's the extent of their use of cursive. For me...I haven't written in cursive (with the exception of signature) since I took a drafting class as an undergrad over 30 years ago.

This debate is so dumb. Zero need for kids to know cursive in today’s world. Printing and typing is fine but some boomers are more worried about kids knowing how to write a certain way instead of knowing how to write in general.

I have kids in Catholic school and they do not use cursive at all (they don't teach Latin, either). They were at a Classical Christian School before that, where they taught in cursive and started Latin in 2nd grade (and switched to Greek in 10th).
