There are way bigger wastes of our tax dollars than the postal service. We need to chop 60% of our government spending before we even get to them.

Our carrier is great with pick-ups, deliveries, scanning packages left in the mailbox for delivery. From there, it's all downhill at the post office.

My mailperson is a model of efficiency . She came up with this interesting idea to delegate mail delivery by just dropping random shite in our mailbox for several houses around the neighborhood. Then we go deliver the mail where it was supposed to go and say hi to the neighbors. Our neighbors do the same for us.
It probably saves the maillady 45 minutes of work per day.

The USPS is far more efficient than any private sector counterpart and it ain't close. Their private sector counterparts could not function at all without them and in fact use them for most postal needs. Post offices and post roads are constitutional powers granted the federal Government. Abolish the USPS and postal and shipping rates will sky rocket and service will fall of a cliff....but vilifying government agencies is about as American as apple pie and defrauding investors....

Have become friendly with my mail deliverer, a black lady who has worked for over 20 yrs for the USPO. She told me that the union basically runs the P.O., the individual managers were helpless / useless. A few months earlier the P.O. had spent $100,000 on each major office, Installing cameras..........in each employee parking lot. Employee theft was so bad.

Certainly no need for weekend service other than to serve Amazon and other online retailers. We have 7 day a week USPS service at our house.

The USPS is, today, one of the largest subsidies to rural America that exists....and given that almost all subsidies in the US go to rural America that is saying something. People in Urban and Suburban areas certainly do not need the USPS like those in rural areas do. The same is true of almost all shipping, power and communications. Again vilifying government is as American as American gets but if we cut down on the subsidies that rural America could not exist without there are all manner of efficiencies which could be achieved. It would of course cause the rugged, self reliant job creators in rural America to actually be rugged and self reliant and there ain't 1 in 1000 capable of that....

No business could physically take millions and millions of letters daily and ship them across country in a couple of days for 82 cents.

Step 1: Privatize tax payer service
Step 2: Private company gets subsidized by taxes because they cannot operate at same cost
Step 3: Private company slowly increases rates every 3 years while reducing services
Step 4: Taxes never decrease

Well, urban America could not exist without rural America. We grow their food. We can go without a few letters, you try to go without food. Seems like an even trade.

Rural America couldn't exist without financial subsidies and the majority of the subsidies exist because of taxes paid in urban and suburban America. If it were not for those subsidies there would be no small and midsized farms left and even more of the US would be dependent upon massive multi-national conglomerates than we already are. It is symbiotic relationship that works but not without problems. Vilifying a quasi federal agency like the US Postal Service that takes no tax dollars while another industry consisting of hard working rugged individuals which could not exist without significant subsidies from the federal government is one of many examples of whats wrong with politics in the US. Not to mention private sector shipping companies would not and could not exist at all without the USPS and massive subsidization.

Isn't the postal service like the one and only thing that the government is required to do under the US constitution?
