We don't lose many employees that we want to keep. Usually we let them go the same day they turn in their two weeks notice because they're just going to be useless and unproductive most of the time. No reason to pay for that crap.

You don’t owe them anymore time than they would give you.
What’s going to happen is people are going to wait until the absolute last day and then walk out that day, ensuring they get paid for those two weeks.

I had a coworker that recently found another job paying more than he was currently being paid. He went speak with the boss and told her he loved his job but the difference in money was too good to pass up. He told her if she could match it he would stay and if not consider this his two week notice. She made a call to HR and later that day he was informed they matched the pay.

I gave 3 month notice to my last job. They still call me time to time when issues arise. Left on good terms and want them to succeed and prosper so I have no issues helping my previous fellow employees through things I can do in my sleep when they need help.

In hindsight, I wish I would’ve given way fewer fricks and stopped trying to be such a good person when I worked a corporate job. It’s pointless and you gain nothing from it. Generally, people who work in middle management for extended periods of time are massive vindictive, lazy, lying shitbags who are terrible to be around and deserve to be treated accordingly.
If I had to go back to working in an office, I’d be more likely to walk into my bosses office, rip a gigantic fart, and tell him to go frick himself and have a nice life than I would be to give any type of advanced notice before quitting.

Employers get treated as they treat others. I didn't quit, but I saw many people leave and many emails written to the CEO including hoping the company burns in hell. I didn't say that, but the feeling was mutual. Fortune 50 company.

I offered my last employer two weeks, and told them I hoped they'd take me up on the offer, and they did. This was less than a year ago.

I am thinking this. I also think this is the last job and company I will work for. It's that kind of destination job and level within the company.
If I burn this Fortune 25 company, it'll be a fart in the wind. I don't even matter other than to my boss, who has counted on me for her own success.

On my last job switch, my current company had a project slow down and started cutting my hours by 25%.
So, with a new offer in hand, and finishing up my current workload that week, I submitted my letter of resignation on a Thursday afternoon. When the Engineering Manager asked when my last day would be, I said, you have already slashed my hours by 25%, so let’s make it tomorrow.

just went through this to another firm; i told the managing partner "2 weeks from this Friday." I guess he interpreted it wrong or something else, but I'm sitting at my desk and get an email from HR about 2 hrs later with a deaprture memo and exit interview for that next day.
I thought they were shitcanning me early. I freak out and call HR and they indicated that's what I had said. Had to call the managing partner and we laughed. They threw me a happy hour today before the deaparture and invited me for lunch next week (to pay off a bet from our Philly office).
Point: don't burn bridges and give AT LEAST 2 weeks.

I gave my two weeks at my last corporate job. I worked the whole two weeks to finish off projects and to hand them off to my co-workers
Things didn’t work out at my next job (too slow) or the job after (employer lied about my role).
Ultimately, I’m back with my original corporate job that I left. A co-worker put in his 2 weeks a month or so after I left and they told him to not bother.. but he was kind of a jackass to work with. He’s a good dude, just not professional

Isn’t this just quitting the job/dragging’ up? What’s the point of a notice if you’re quitting that day? Unless there are ethical issues or something that make you “resign effective immediately” or something like that, and you want a paper trail.
In healthcare, people will get blackballed from the entire individual healthcare system (ie all Oschner hospitals if working at an Oschner facility) if you walk out without a two week notice. Not a good idea for future employment options, with the trend of consolidation of hospitals/clinics under a particular healthcare system. In California, if you get blackballed from Kaiser Permanente, your potential future job opportunities are probably cut in half.

My whole perspective on a 2 weeks notice changed during COVID. I busted my arse working when everyone else was off. We hit a slow period the summer of 2021 and was furloughed without notice in favor of hourly employees that cost the company less. My furlough was 12 weeks. So I searched high and low for a new job and found one with a great relo package out of the shite hole that is BR. Within the hour of me signing the acceptance letter I went to my employer and let them know I would not be returning. My scheduled return date was 2 days later and everyone lost their shite. I gave them more notice than they gave me for my furlough, so frick em
