There’s a whole lot of quoted mumbo jumbo (not clicking the link) claiming that Bandit somehow subverts masculinity, but I didn’t see any explanation of how.

Other than he plays with his kids and isn’t shown working. God forbid.

The show is 7-8 minute episodes that are just snippets of their lives. Bandit works a lot and is gone for months at a time sometimes for his job, and I think its in the story that he also wrote a book about archeology so that would obviously take a lot of time.

I also don't think people realize a lot of the episodes are taking place first thing in the early morning *before* the kids go to school and Bandit/Chilli go to work, and a few after they're home in the afternoon. Bandit also works from home quite a bit

Yeah, we should go back to showing masculine men of the 1950’s who come home from work, drink, and ignore their kids and wife as they sit in a recliner
Is that what they did? Is that how they were presented?

Kids absolutely need rough and tumble play with their fathers. It’s an absolute necessity to their development.

Now, the father needs to also lay down the law from time to time. But I’m going to say that it’s probably not a bad thing for a kids cartoon to show kids playing with their dad.

Didn’t read all that crap but that person can piss off

Bandit is obviously a drug runner with his pilot license, dude just likes playing with his kids in the down time. Seems plenty toxic masculine to me

Also one of the few shows, animated or not, to portray bachelor living the life on oil rig money. Uncle Rad is a true Baw, or whatever the Australian equivalent is. Aunt Frisky is lucky she was able to lock him down.

The writer of this article can shut her whore mouth. Bluey may be the best kid show of all time, and it's honestly a great adult show as well.

But to the quotes in the OP, there are episodes where Bandit has to go to work, or flies out of town for work, or is bothered internally by something from work. Stuff like that is littered throughout the series.

Now, I have my gripes about Bluey sometimes (like how whiney the girls are and just how much they get their way), but it's GOAT-level kid entertainment.

1. They have a lot of episodes where Bandit is working/going to work/ about. to leave for an extended period of time to work.

2.

When I’m in the Middle East, I see it everywhere. All the good and toxic depictions of fatherhood I see from those native to this region I recognize as coming from these Abrahamic stories. It’s increasingly hard to see in the Christian West.

fellas, is it gay not to raise your children to be terrorist?

There’s only one problem with this new ideal father: He embodies almost all of the elements of the traditional mother, purged of the essence of elements from the historic father.

I have watched every single episode of Bluey multiple times and not once did I ever think this.

quote:

The dad, Bandit, is seen as a constantly nurturing, always-present playmate to his two daughters, Bluey and Bingo.

The horror

quote:

Our culture LOVES this depiction of fatherhood. It empties the father character of all the elements of the traditionally masculine father we’ve grown uncomfortable with, and at the same time, it provides freedom for the mother to get out in the world and explore her individual passions.

What a complete misread of this show. In fact one of the best episodes of the series is The Sign where Bandit gets a job out of down and is going to move the family. And if you’ve ever been a parent faced with uprooting your kids for work, that episode cuts like a knife.

The Simpsons has been on for 36 years and they might have enough episodes to make up a half a season that actually depict Homer working at the Nuc plant.

My grandson won't sleep unless he is wearing his Bluey robe. Funny shite. Walks around like a pint sized Hugh Hefner before bed time.

not in the middle east.

they’re much more of a classic terrorist culture there. Suicide bombs, shooting women and children.

I don't buy any of this, but even if I did, a world with fathers of any stripe is preferable to a world without them.

How many children are there today without a father figure in their life? How many of them are watching Bluey right now wondering why they don't get to enjoy the same relationship with their own dad? How many of them are going to turn to lives of crime, poverty, and antisocial behavior? After all there truly isn't any better indicator of a child's lot in life as whether or not they have a stable father figure. It's really depressing to think about.

If Bandit is able to reach just one child who decides that they want for their own children that which they were denied for themselves, or if it's able to reach one father who can undergo a change to be more present in their children's lives, then the show will have succeeded in its goal, and we'll all be a little better off for it.

If more dads were like Bandit, we wouldn't have some of the problems we have now.

Men HAVE to be involved in their family to keep society running. That means more than just bringing home a paycheck.

It is literally the only decent show for both kids and parents these days

No shite, frick this guy. Bluey is a fantastic example of a family. I've never looked at Bandit and thought "nurturing". The dude cheats in obstacle courses to make sure he doesn't let his kids win for fricks sake.

He's ignoring his kids making a mess of everything while drinking beer with his brother at the grill at a cookout. Bandit is a great father.
