Sportsman's paradise in North Louisiana? Maybe, but whoever did this has never fished or hunted in the most southern parts of the state. Venice (especially here), Boothville, Empire, Buras are areas that I have fished often. There's nothing better than fishing for specs and reds during Thanksgiving week right off of the Miss. River and watching duck dogs running in the marsh about 500 yards away picking up ducks. Just a beautiful part of the state with year round fishing both freshwater and saltwater. Worth a trip if you've never been. Plenty of guide services too.

Baton Rouge is the crossroads where all the different cultures (Mississippi Delta, Protestant rednecks, cajuns, creoles, German coast coonasses, transplants from Ohio, etc) meet and cancel each other out.

The first type is your classic French Cajun and they live west of the Atchafalaya basin in the area typically referred to as Acadia.

For the first type a good example is Justin Wilson.

Justin Wilson was born in Northern Tangipahoa Parish. He grew up closer to Mississippi than the Mississippi River, much less the west side of the Basin.

frick you if you think Justin Wilson represents anything outside of the Florida parishes. Big difference between having a East Louisiana French mother and being an actual Acadian.

From everyone I've known that grew up in BR, they definitely speak like rednecks, so I side with that

How’s the deer hunting in that part of the state? I think that’s why north La is called that. One could easily argue that the entire state is a sportsman’s paradise though.

Which is why it was the state name for so long.

You can kill anything from a marlin to an alligator to a white-tailed buck.

Basically this.

Wish they were Acadiana or NOLA, but they’re neither.
