No. Cajuns are french Catholic. Rednecks are scotch-irish protestants. They have different music, food, history, culture, traditions, religions, attitudes on vices, etc. other than both liking trucks, hunting/fishing, and living in rural areas, they couldn’t be more different.

Baton Rouge is in the middle of the trashy region bounded on the west by Lafayette and on the east by Slidell.

If you think Lafayette is trashy, you’ve only been to the mall of Acadiana and surrounding areas. Lafayette proper is one of the least trashy places in the whole state.

The BR area has a distinct voice accent in some circles that's a cross between Cajun & Redneck. But it's spliced together so tightly that one doesn't drown out the other.

I know many of you know exactly what I'm referring to.

The one thing you got right is that there are two types of Cajun, Prairie and Bayou.

This is essentially what I was referring to. What's mostly west of the Atchafalaya Basin? Prairies. What's mostly East Atchafalaya basin? Bayous.

There is no such thing as a Yat Cajun.

Never said there was. I specifically said it was, "what I call". Language is dynamic and always changing. There are very few hard-and-fast rules and we make them up as we go along. I choose that phrase because it denotes an endemic culture like Cajun is but with a New Orleans influence.

The Acadians did not settle in Orleans Parish

Where in my post did I say they did?

Yats have Irish and Italian heritage.

I grew up in New Orleans my whole life. I went to Orleans Parish Public Schools. I took several classes in Louisiana history with a heavy focus on New Orleans history. I'm well aware of New Orleans cultural history.

I've noticed many members here assume too much when they read posts.

My whole point was that there are two endemic cultures that are often assumed to be Cajun by Carpetbaggers. One group has a heavy and pure Cajun accent the other has what can often be mistaken as a Cajun accent and in some cases does have a Cajun sound but with a little bit of a yat accent.

Justin Wilson was born in Northern Tangipahoa Parish. He grew up closer to Mississippi than the Mississippi River, much less the west side of the Basin.

What's your point? I know where he's from. Did you miss the part where I said, "south of the North shore of Lake Pontchartrain"?

Again, people assuming and not actually reading what was written. Stop trying to read between the fricking lines.

frick you if you think Justin Wilson represents anything outside of the Florida parishes. Big difference between having a East Louisiana French mother and being an actual Acadian.

"Culture" in Louisiana is sometimes a tad overblown. More from the outsiders, though.

I remember being in New Orleans once and some obvious tourists asked a guy at a fruit stand with HORRIBLE grammar/speaking skills 'How much for the tannnnngerines?'

He mumbled something back to them that I couldn't make out, either. The wife asked the guy 'what did he say??'.
The husband answered 'You know I don't understand any of that Cajun.'

(The guy wasn't Cajun.)

its 2018, anyone can be a redneck. I haven't done a DNA test on my neighbor, but I'm guessing he's got a lot more African than Irish blood in him. And his accent makes Randy Moss sound like he is from Connecticut.
