Why you say that? I'm just trying to help people learn about Pokemon and to find good deals...It's the first website I ever built so I am just trying to find people to test it or to help improve it... I don't have much money and can't afford to just have someone build something for me or pay for crazy advertising.. I have to start somewhere..

He's equating Pokemon to "nerd culture" and the soccer board, it's an old troupe... just ignore him.

If it's a person over the age of 10, I would rather refer to it as immature not gay. Just don't understand a grown azz man worrying about something like pokemon.

You both would be better off putting this much effort into the stock market.

Same thing.

I hate people that are solely speculators and collectors. Kids can't even play the game because 50 year old dudes are waiting in line at Target to wipe out the shelves every Monday morning.

I get you are enjoying this with your kids, but don't make it about finding high value cards. Just enjoy the game, the art and completing sets. Don't make it about money.

I will say - luckily around where I live we have a bunch of card shops, and every single one of them cater to the player waaaaaay more than the scalpers. For Magic they hold onto some of their stock for the Magic night, for Pokemon they hold onto it for Pokemon League, etc. If I wanted to I could have my son opening packs every week because of this and at MSRP (I don't, because I'm REALLLLLY not trying to give him a gambling addiction at the age of 8 lol).

He's had a load of fun playing, I hope next week and the 20+ games he might have to play won't make him hate it completely after (I've heard the big regional events are a lot of fun though, so I'm optimistic)

I’m into rare US coins and peripherally precious metals.

Pokémon cards may outperform my stuff over some period of time but if the World’s economy collapses, a Gem Mint 10 Charzard ain’t gonna be worth a loaf of bread.

I’ll stick with my vice.

I have a first edition holographic Charizard from back in the day. I was taking care of it as a kid. My brother crumpled it up like old news paper. I beat his arse. Still have it. Still mad at him.

No. Pokemon is for children. Only Magic the Gathering in this household…

It's not "worrying about," it's a hobby. You do it to pass the time with things you enjoy with people you enjoy. Same logic applies to a "grown azz man" worrying about something like which college an 18 year old is going to commit to for a year and if they play a game adequately enough.

Unlike baseball cards, you can actually play a tcg with these cards, and women are a huge portion of the collector's market.

Also let's not pretend they're printing anything comparable to the literal cardboard from the junk wax era. The printing quality itself is a totally different world from 90s donruss.

I don't know anything about Pokemon, but the baseball card industry learned from it's past mistakes and culled the herd and then implemented designed scarcity so there's a bunch of unique cards, autographs, tiny piece of a world series jersey, etc. built into the system. It's like a lottery - degenerates ripping packs and hobby boxes hoping to land that 1/1 Ohtani Chrome auto throwback whatever.

I assume Pokemon is similar. 99% of cards are worthless nerd porn and a chosen few have scarcity value.

Well, considering that a PSA Charizard sold for $550K, I’d take my chances.

You'd get a better response posting this on the soccer board.

What a non-relavent old argument.

Pokemon trencended nerd culture long ago. But never YUCK someone else's YUM.

Yes, there are aspects that are nerdy about it, but every segment of a hobby will have a nerdy part.
