Is anyone here into Pokémon Trading/Selling?

Anybody on here into collecting, buying, selling, or trading Pokémon cards?
I’ve gotten more into the hobby lately due to my kids and have been learning more about which cards and sealed products are worth watching, what people look for when buying, and how collectors decide what’s actually a good deal.
I’m also working on a small website/tool around the hobby and would eventually like to get some feedback from people who are actually into Pokémon collecting.
Just curious if there are many people here into it, and if the OT Lounge is the right place to ask about this kind of stuff.

Just into it bc of my kids. They come to me every day for their "daily scan"
Which involves me taking a picture of their selected card and uploading it to grok to get a value. Most are between $0.30-$0.50 but sometimes we get ones that are $2-$3
They enjoy hearing about the card and what their "PSA-10" values would be.

My 7 year old and her friends trade cards. Pretty sure they just trade off which ones look the coolest/cutest.
That's all I got.

This is just gambling. Huge bubble use your mind for something else. Good to have a hobby with your kids but don’t make everything monetary

Now, where is that 17 year old from Breaux Bridge going to college?

I'm into sports cards. Both markets are on fire right now.
Just for the love of god do not be the grown man waiting in Walmart or Target for them to put the stuff out on the shelves.

No. But I bought a 30th mini booster pack and tin from Best buy just for the hell of it cause they had them in stock and were limiting them to 1 per person cause of scalpers. So what the heck.
I did get one of the valuable cards. An EX Mewtwo. No idea what I'm going to do with them.

My kids are sort of into this, but thankfully their interest is waning. The kids they're friends with from school and that play on their sports teams with them don't do it. The nerdy kids that live in our neighborhood do.
For a while there in the Summer, they saw a lot more of the neighbor kids and they were really into that crap.
ETA;
There is some Pokemon vending machine at our grocery store and I only see grown arse incel men getting cards out

I get what you’re saying, but I think there’s a little more to it than just gambling or trying to turn a hobby into money.
There’s a pretty established collector market behind Pokémon, just like sports cards, comics, coins, watches, or even classic cars. A lot of the fun for me is learning the market, understanding why certain cards or sets are desirable, spotting fakes, tracking supply and demand, and trying to make smart buys instead of just blindly opening packs hoping to hit something.
Can people gamble on it and lose money? Absolutely. But buying collectibles carefully and learning what holds value is a lot different than throwing money at random packs.
For me the monetary side doesn’t replace the hobby. It actually gives me another part of the hobby to learn and enjoy, especially if I can teach my kids about collecting, value, patience, and not overpaying for something just because it’s popular.

Sell it on Ebay.. Or hold onto it for possible more value in a few years..

Yeah i can't stand that either..Let the kids get it! It is cause they can flip it for twice the amount for it.. Thats another reason i created this website and will hopefully get it to be a antiscalper website...
