I've been harassed by girls in the workplace, bars, everywhere...

I just blow them off.

Ok, wrong choice of words, but you get the idea.

I don't disagree with you at all.

At the end of the day, the people who take it too far probably aren't self aware enough to change anything, so maybe I'm cynical but I think this "movement" is a waste of time.

This reads as the message to all men is that we are by default assumed to be a dangerous sexual predators, but I guess that was already the assumed norm.

Also. Every man thinks they're not the a-hole. You clearly think you're not. And maybe you're not. But maybe you are? Chances are, the weirdos/assholes don't think they are either. So that's why the message goes out to all men.

I accepted the fact that I'm a weirdo/a-hole a long time ago.

It’s pretty much this. Most of the people on Facebook that I see getting upset and defensive about the movement are shitty guys that have probably been the basis for more than a few of these stories themselves. Nobody is saying that men aren’t sexually assuaulted. But it blows my mind how many stories I’ve heard from female friends about how they’ve been sexual harassed and inappropriately solicited since they were kids. Why don’t they tell? Just look through this thread. “Attention whore”. “She liked it”. “Nobody would harrass that ugly bitch”. “Maybe if they’d dress differently”. Etc.

The same assholes that say “lol, yeah right” to every other woman who make claims about being sexually intimidated by men their whole lives would be in jail if their daughter, wife, sister, etc brought it to them.

Saw one of my friends post it. This chick is a goddamn whale, and has been for over a decade. At least.

Immediately discounted anything she and her ilk had to say.

My wife is on FB and Twitter but doesn't participate in these types of things. On this topic, I think she's been fortunate to not experience anything too bad.

When we were just getting to know each other (20 yrs ago), a guy that each of us barely knew stuck a St. Paddy's Day sticker on her shirt (upper boob area) and rubbed for a little too long. She quickly used me as an excuse to get away from him.

During an LSU sponsored trip to Mexico City (part of degree requirement), the group had to take public bus transportation and my wife mentioned the obvious 'accidental' groping from the Mexican men as everyone is sitting/standing in tight quarters.

If you are an average (or above) looking woman in today's world, you have probably experienced multiple incidents similar to my wife's examples. Or possibly much worse.

Correct. A lot of people say things like "well, I get my butt grabbed too". These aren't the stories I hear. Here's a few:

One incident: She goes swimming at her nephews when she's like 5 or 6. He sticks his hand down the front of her swimming suit and grabs her by the vagina. She never told her parents.

Another incident: At 9, she was held down by a group of boys in the neighborhood who forced their hand in her pants. She kicked free and hid on a neighbor's roof that wasn't home until the guys went away. She never told her parents.

Again, a girl was pre-pubescent and would routinely have construction workers comment in graphic detail what they'd like to do to her. Never told her parents.

I get that the feminist movement is full of a bunch of attention-whore "look at me, I'm political and woke!" kind of people. But this is a bit different. The same people in this thread that are giving each other handjobs over shitty one-liners and laughing about "lol, women...AMIRITE" could easily be having their daughters getting diddled by some family member and they'd never know a damn thing.

no buddy, it reads that almost every woman you know has come into contact with a dangerous sexual predator or at least an a-hole.

that they've been made to feel less than human by someone. that they've been grabbed, groped or fondled. that they've been pressured into sex by someone in a position of power. that they've been intimidated.

they're letting you know that it's not just happening to celebrities. but your sister. friend. mother. people you know. girls you're attracted to, girls you'd never even think to be attracted to.

that this type of thing is common practice. and a thing that women face daily.

no one's pointing the finger at you because you're a man. they're actually asking for your help. for your acknowledgment that it happened. for your promise to speak up if you see it happening in the future.

the southern gentleman in us all can relate.

No one is arguing about those incidents. In fact, that's the main problem that people here have with these ridiculous social movements. They lump what you described in with a guy awkwardly hitting on a girl that isn't attracted to him. The dilution of such real incidents by the outrage industry is completely the fault of the same people that claim to be the ones helping victims.

I had a fat disgusting woman in her 50s grab my junk at the bar and told me to get us a hotel room. When I said no, she said her husband was a cop and was going to find me and arrest me because she said she was going to tell him that I grabbed her tits. I could play victim about that but it's not even in the ballpark of what you described - which is what these movements should really be about.

That's like complaining about women being focused on as breast cancer survivors because men get breast cancer too.

I'm not sure why people need to act like toddlers when someone other than their group brings up a problem that is statistically more of an issue for that particular group. You gonna lay on the ground and cry because it's not fair that they're getting the attention and you're not? Boohoo, snowflake.

no, not really. because it's systemic. and has been for a long, long time. there are literally even genres of porn based upon these power dynamics. Teacher over Student. The Casting Couch. Boss over secretary. Groping women on the streets turning into a sexual encounter.

these are clear sexualizations that appear in the actual world. the manifestation of real fantasies made into something watchable. i'm not condeming them. but just using them illustrate that the desires indeed exist. and while not wrong to feel on a personal level, are clearly wrong to act upon in a social level.

these "me toos" are to illustrate they're happening. every day. and to every woman you know

the number of times where a man in power has used his position to persuade women into things they felt uncomfortable is so much greater than vice versa.

just hear them. we've all been complicit. in ranking women by looks. in objectifying. in persuading. we can own it and make the world better.

See, I keep hearing say "play victim, play victim, play victim". No, there's no playing. Legally, you were a victim of sexual assault. Now, if you're not overly offended and can just walk away from the situation, that's totally fine. Frankly, I would just walk away as well. But just because you can blow it off doesn't mean others should be expected to. That dismissive outlook is how we get issues like this.

If someone stole an iPod out of my car and I just said "screw it" and bought a new one instead of approaching the police, it doesn't mean I would expect someone that was a victim of theft to do the same thing.

Oh, I think most normal men are more than willing to "hear them" if they've been sexually assaulted by someone. That's a serious issue.

See, this shite right here is where your whole argument falls to pieces.

You've just lumped every normal red-blooded male who finds women attractive and acknowledges it into the same basket as fricking pedos and rapists.

You don't see how that is counterintuitive? You think that because I make a babe thread, or approach a woman in a bar and get shot down that I'm the same as some jerk that tries to stick his hand down a girls pants in an alley?

You really don't see the issue here?
